Decision Making (URGENT)

I believe there are some people may have the same issue as I do, please excuse my poor English.

I moved to Canada since August 2010, at that time I was using the student permit to stay in Canada for about two years.
In August 2012, I got my PR.
I've been visiting my home town between 2010 and 2012, about total of half year.

Here is the problem:

I'm not sure when is the best time for me to apply my application as new law is coming in 2015. Should I wait till the new law apply, since they say the processing time will be shorter. Or I should apply as soon as possible? :'(

If I want to apply my citizenship before the "NEW bill-c24", then I can submit my application in January 2015 or the end of this year.
However it may take longer for them to review my application because my situation is very complicated.

What do you think I should do????

Thanks for answering!

Sincerely,
Joel

Just in case if you don't get what my questions were.

Should I wait till Bill c-24 applied or no? Is it going to make the processing time shorter?

Thanks ;)

Unfortunately, no one knows which is better for you or whether processing times will be shorter. If your case is 'complicated' now, I don't see how it will be different under the new rule.

I'm a believer in applying for things when one becomes eligible, but the final decision is yours.

Proceeding has already shortened for major cities under the new decision making model. And in my opinion the processing time will be same post Bill C24 as well. It is in your advantage to apply as soon as possible.

If you want my personal opinion. I think the new bill will be faster for the first batch of applications received. If something is new, people like try it out quickly. Same thing with this bill.

However, you should apply when you are fully qualified. By fully qualified, I don't mean 1095 days, but you should be well above those days.. so that your citizenship application is like a slam dung. Keep in mind that many people in this country apply for citizenship and then move back to their home countries, they do this by waiting for 1095 days and as soon as the days are up , they apply. So anybody who is applying with 1095 days on hand is going to create a suspicion. You want to keep a few buffer months or even a year would be good. This will establish that Canada is where your home is. My brother applied for citizenship after 10 - 11 years, he came in as a student like you.

Actually it's not complicated. Just the residence issue,
My conditions are:
2010-2012 (Student without PR) ->Count half (each day)
2010-2012 There are some day that I was not in Canada (for vacation reason) ->Don't count

I differ. Giving few days as buffer to cover contingency for trips is wise; beyond that, there is no such ting as suspicion, if you apply after you qualify.

Joel, Your case is not complicated at all. It is a straigh forward case. You were a student and you took some time off and that is okay. There is no issue with that. This being said, use the online residence calculator to figure out when you are qualified. The online residence calculator will do the math for you. Just tell the system when you were in Canada, when you became a PR, when you were not in Canada. If in all you were in Canada for 1.5 years, then your residence in Canada before PR will be 9 months. If you became a PR in Aug 2012, then you have 2 years and 2 months.. looks like you will be eligible in a couple of months?

For your second question, to be quite frank I do not think it is going to make a huge difference and mine you : you have to wait for few more years because your nine months will NOT be counted PLUS you can apply after staying for total of 4 years (say 2 more years - 2016). If I were you I will apply as soon as you are eligible... Give a buffer of 10 days... 1095+10 days and you are fine...

Once again, if I were you I will not wait because you will have to wait for a at least 1.5 years... I am sure you will be a Citizen in 1.5 years if you apply now..

Question: Where do you live?

Same here; 2010/Nov/01 I first came to Canada as a tourist. Got PR 2012/Jan/12. I already applied for the citizenship on 2014/Aug/27. The residency calculation is 1097 days. Been waiting for e-case to show up or incomplete app to be returned. I'm praying.

Good luck!!

I am in agreement , If I were in your shoes I would apply as soon as you are eligible with a little buffering... why wait if you are eligible?

Please don't forget the " intent to reside " clause in the new bill with all the controversy about its meaning and implementation .
If I where you I would apply when I am eligible with buffer days

From my experience it is better to add at least 10 days for buffer. So make sure your calculator reads 1105 days!

Well I think you should apply as soon as you are eligible. It doesn't matter how quick they start processing applications later they will clear the application they received first. And it also makes sense that the bill applies to all so you would benefit from new changes regardless.
