Hi All,

We applied Outland and ecas is saying "decision made" so we should hopefully hear from CIC soon. My wife is from a visa-exempt country (US) so her 6 months don't end till later in July 2014. She's currently living with me in Canada.

Can someone please tell me the following:

1) Will CIC email or mail us with an update?
2) If COPR is received, it will be in Florida (where she's from), can we mail it back here in Canada?
3) Will my wife have to go back to Florida for landing? or can we drive to Buffalo and re-enter? What is the process after receiving DM?

Thanks!!!

My husband just got DM as well. As far as I've read on the forums, CIC will not send you any emails regarding the decision; you will either get a COPR in the mail or a letter telling you your application has been denied. As for receipt of the COPR, my husband is here with me in Canada, and we changed his mailing address with CIC to Canada, too, so he won't receive mail in his home country of Korea. So your wife's COPR will be sent to the address on record with the VO, so it will go to Florida if that's her address of record. If you have someone there to receive it, they can mail it or courier it to you at your Canadian address, then your wife can flagpole, which means you just have to go to the Canada-US border and let Canadian authorities know you are there to flagpole. Your wife will show her COPR and then CIC will mail her PR card to your Canadian address. You can also email CIC to change her address to your Canadian address, but at this point they might already have mailed her COPR to her US address.

Hi Daantaat,

Thank you for your reply. If COPR is the result, and after crossing the border what is the process? Is there anything specific we need to take with us? Will we get a form or something to get her PR? I'm trying to understand when CIC will mail her PR and how they will be notified that we have been to the border for landing?

Also, If she changes her current address now will the PR card be sent to the updated address?

Thanks again!

Congrats on the DM! They will mail you the COPR for sure because if there are any problems they would have contacted you for an interview. Once you get the COPR you will have to go to a border to "Land" The address that you give them there is where they will send the PR card in about 2-3 months. The COPR is the form/certificate you need to land as permanent resident.

Well, if I understand the process correctly, you will receive the COPR in the mail and that is what you should take with you to the border. Once there, you can let the border officers know you are there to flagpole, and they will take the COPR and get your mailing address in Canada and then they will mail the PR card to your wife at your Canadian address. I think it takes two to four weeks after officially landing before she will get the actual card in the mail. As for what else you should bring with you, I'm not sure, but you can probably search the forums for "flagpole" and find answers. Once you have the PR card in hand, your wife can apply for her SIN card and she can open a bank account or be added to your account, and she's free to start looking for work or enrolling in school.

As far as changing your address now, you can go ahead and do it, (maybe call the CIC address change number - it's on the website) and if the COPR hasn't been sent out yet, it will hopefully be sent to your Canadian address. Otherwise, it will be sent to her Florida address.

As well, there are other users on the forum who are much more informed of the process than I am. If you look for RobTO on the boards, he can help you quite a bit with your questions!
