Hello Bhuvan,

As far as your wife's pregnancy goes, much depends on your own status, and where the child is born. Just being pregnant itself does not change the process at all, so at 3 months in there is no need to update any status at this point.

1) If you are a Canadian Citizen, the child will be a citizen regardless of where he/she is born. I'm 99% sure this means the PR application will not have to be changed in any way.
2) If you are NOT a Canadian Citizen (i.e. a PR only), then if the child IS born in Canada the child is a Canadian Citizen, and the PR application will not have to be changed.
3) If you are a PR only, and the child is NOT born in Canada, the PR application will have to be updated to include your new dependent child. If this doesn't happen, you risk not being able to sponsor the child ever in the future. You need to do this EVEN if a CoPR has already been issued and your wife hasn't landed yet.

As for the status of your application...a Decision Made is, in theory, supposed to mean that either the PR is approved, the PR is denied, or that you will shortly be contacted for an interview. No one can tell you for sure but if you were not contacted for an interview it is very unlikely you would have been denied outright unless there was some glaring problem with the application (criminal past, serious disease, evidence of fraud, etc).

I'm not a lawyer or immigration consultant, but, if the CIC asks you if you are pregnant and how far along you are...it is NOT a good idea to lie about it, though I'm rather curious as to why they are asking. Unborn children are not part of any application process.

No one can really tell you for sure how long your VO will take to respond to you. It depends on whether they are ready to issue you your CoPR or whether they have additional questions for you.

Hi again,

I just want to try and put you at ease somewhat...I've been looking up this issue of pregnancy during a PR application, and here is what I can best conclude:

-Pregnancy, as stated, does not change the PR application itself. Unborn children don't have to be declared on any form.
-Since they are asking you, it is a good idea to be honest about it. Pregnancy is not actually a lawful reason in itself to be refused border entry. BUT Misrepresentation is.
-I am guessing once you land you should be upfront about being pregnant. Again, this SHOULD not change your CoPR in any way, especially if you inform the CIC now of your situation. If you had a CoPR in hand, and the CIC knows you are pregnant already, you would have no problems. Again, just BEING pregnant should not affect your application at all -- there are no additional people to sponsor at this time.

I cannot say with any certainty what will happen. I know the CIC allows sponsors who are PRs to visit abroad, but I do not know how they will look upon a 4 month trip. It may very well be that they do not care but I have no real experience in this area. If they do not ask however there is no need to inform them about your sponsor.

With that said I wonder if it could cause more of an issue if you and your sponsor travel back to Canada together when you land. If he is there with you they could ask how long he was there for with you. If he is not there with you they would not ask about him at all. Again this is only speculation on my part.

You are correct on all points except #1. Parents can only transmit Canadian citizenship by birth if they themselves were born in Canada.

Are you sure? The CIC site itself seems to say that if the child is born after April 17, 2009 (obviously, in this case), the child will be Canadian as long as the parent is a naturalized Canadian Citizen at the time of birth.

That's bizarre. I have a buddy who is as Canadian as they come, and who was born in Europe somewhere. This means that he (who has lived here most of his life) can't transmit Canadian citizenship by birth because he was not born here, but once I become a citizen I can?

That means I could theoretically transmit TWO citizenships by birth.
