Unfortunately yes, as I understand it, your application will
not even be processed without a handwritten signature. The form itself is confusing because it's a generic form used for multiple immigration purposes, but the directions for how we should fill it out as PR applicants specifically were stated in our checklist (IMM 5533, question 9).
Someone else around here can probably give more experienced advice, but I would try to get in touch with them immediately (maybe via the webform?) about how you can correct this, as it would be a waste to sit around and just wait for them to mail it all back!
Here's the text from the CIC website:
You must do the following when submitting a paper version of the form with your initial application:
- In the signature section, type the name of the person for whom the form is being filled out. Also enter the date that the form is being filled out.
- Validate the form.
- Print the form.
- Sign your name by hand. (Note: For principal applicants under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign the form on the dependent child’s behalf.)
Important: If the form is not signed and dated per these instructions, it will not be accepted and your applications will be returned to you without being processed.
Note: A typed signature without an accompanying handwritten signature will only be accepted if the form is uploaded through an online account (for example, if you are asked to upload a new one later in processing). If you are asked to submit a new one later in processing and you submit it through the IRCC webform, you still need a handwritten signature.
