Hoorah! Our application just changed to status "In Progress" this morning too for the Background check. Hope it won't be too long from now!

Looks like a lot of the background checks from the first week of January 2017 are being processed now. I'm about 2 weeks later. :D

I applied a month earlier than the December applicants getting their BGC now, but mine still hasn't started, and my application is very straightforward. Just wanted to point that out in case your application doesn't go as quickly as theirs, so don't get too bummed if that happens! Overall, Ottawa VO is still very fast.

Not a thing. :(

But thank you for thinking of me! :)

Don't get too discouraged over background checks starting. My husbands went from started to complete in 3 days then decision made on the 5th. I am one of those people who checked ECAS and GC Key everyday at least 3 times a day. I think a lot of depends on if the officer remembers to update it or not. There were others that had been in process for 2+ weeks before my husbands started and completed. Our application wasn't very straightforward as he has 3 kids that are non accompanying and had no medicals done.

Yeah, it can be a bit disheartening, but I just remind myself that I'm living with my husband and we aren't moving to Canada until summer (at the earliest), so it doesn't really matter. My brain is also wired to check ECAS and MyCIC everyday, so I'm unnecessarily bummed when I don't see any changes. But I suppose I'd rather nothing happen than getting notices of things that are missing from our application!

can someone tell me that what is ecas and where do you check about the background check in progress? because when I check my application I always go to cic.gc.ca and check my application status there only. is that ecas? I applied on December 6th and my status says that we started working on your application jan. 19. its the same status from last month. does this ever change? please help thankyou

ECAS is another place to check your application status. CIC and ECAS very rarely change. CIC is the only place really that does your background check status and medical updates. When you get decision made it will show up in ECAS first. You can log into ECAS with the sponsor or applicant info, just use your application number to start.

Thanks for your reply. that's where I check my status every time it just says we started working on your application on January 19. it means they have not started the background check is that right? or sometime they don't update your ecas? please reply thankyou.

So it doesn't show in the ecas?? If I want to check in the mycic I have to link my application to the account is that right? Thanks for your reply.

Yes, correct..

You may want to try these steps to link your account:

Not mine. Credit goes to the owner.

"1. Logged in with GC Key account.
2. Permanent Residence > Family Class (Spouses)
2. Application Number and Family Name - Copy/pasted application number from email (including the F) and entered PA's last name. If you don't have App Number, use Family Name, Birthday, Place of Birth
3. City of Birth - I entered 1 space (hit spacebar once)
4. Country of Birth - Selected PA's country of birth
5. Passport Info - Did not enter any passport info
6. Other Application Info - Filled out the other application info as per our application and put '2' as the number of members in the application."

thankyou for your help. I was trying to link my application to the account, it says that we found 1 application. I used a representative when I filed my application so I have to remove my representative to link my application. is this normal? should I remove my consultant from it?

Hey all,
Considering my application is still waiting on Sponsorship approval and it's now been almost 9 weeks it's safe to say things aren't going well. Does anyone know of the withdrawal process and if I can get my application fee back?

This link is for withdrawal of application for family sponsorship:

If it's any consolation, I'm still waiting as well. Our app is so simple. Canadian married to an American. We've been together for almost six years. I own my house (outright come August!) and I've been at the same job for years. I thought we'd be well into the process by now. I don't understand why it's taking so long to just get SA. One person in the US applicants thread told me they sent their app in October and didn't get SA until January. Said they were freaking out. That gives me a bit of hope and I really, really need it right now. This is supposed to be an exciting and happy thing and I am just so frustrated, annoyed, discouraged, and kind of scared. Ugh. :(

Did you both try linking your app on ecas or my cic?

I'm linked to both. Nothing is happening.
