Do you know the reason why you have got thr RQ?

Most probably due to month long trips outside Canada twice every year. RQ was issued right away after processing started and the envelope was stamped by Sydney, NS but the letter mentioned Mississauga.

Hi Everyone, A Very Happy New Year to you all.

I am a September applicant, but just follow this thread as very helpful information is exchanged here. I had an RQ and had to respond before Jan 2nd. However, I had to deal with a family emergency and hence was able to mail in the response only by Dec 29. The local office Mississauga) received it yesterday (Dec 31) and my waiting game has begun again. I will keep you guys updated. If my RQ responses are accepted, then I can act as an SME :-) if any of the December applicants get an RQ as well. Although I hope no one gets an RQ as the response process is very tiresome. It is only a 5 page questionnaire but when you start responding and collecting documents you can realise that it could easily be a 2-week effort.
Congratulations on your submission!
We wish you all the best.
Cheers,

RQ Factors (this information was copied and pasted from the reference to simply allow you to read it here on the thread),

· Declaring time spent prior to becoming a permanent resident in Canada (such as being on a work permit) as part of your residence requirement for citizenshp, but not being able to prove it
· Being unable to clearly explain where you lived in the past four years

Previous Citizenship Applications

· Having previously submitted an application for Canadian citizenship which was refused because of the residence requirement
· Having withdrawn or abandoned a previous Canadian citizenship application

Passport Evidence

· Stamps in your passport that indicate you took trips outside Canada that you did not declare on your citizenship application
· Having a stamp in your passport that shows you have recently entered Canada when you take your citizenship test or verify your documents with a CIC officer (indicating that you have spent time outside Canada while your application is in process)
· Including a new passport in your application, but being unable to provide a copy of the previous one
· Presenting a new passport that was issued outside Canada
· Not bringing your passport or other documents when you were advised to bring them to a citizenship test or document examination

Travel Outside Canada

· CIC is aware that you travel often outside Canada
· CIC has received information that you do not really live in Canada
· You have relinquished or attempted to relinquish permanent resident status while outside Canada
· You may possibly have your permanent resident status revoked while you are outside Canada
· You may possibly have your PR status revoked inside or outside Canada because you have not met the residence requirement
· You declared on your citizenship application that you were outside Canada for more than 365 days in the past four years

Suspicious Documents
· Your identification or supporting documents appear to be fake or fraudulent
· The CIC call centre has indicated that it appears you are frequently outside Canada
· The photos included with your Canadian citizenship application were taken outside Canada but you did not mention any trips on your application
· You are asked to provide fingerprints and have them taken outside Canada
· Your provincial healthcard or driver's license is expired, or is close to expiring at the time you submit your citizenship application

Proof of Employment

· Your employer is far away from your residence
· Your employer cannot be contacted
· You have been unemployed for extended periods during the four years prior to when you submitted your Canadian citizenship application
· Multiple applicants are using the same articles of incorporation or are listed on the board of directors for a particular Canadian company
· A letter of employment is signed by the applicant's family member or by himself
· Absences from Canada are presented as a work assignment from a Canadian company, however the applicant is a shareholder or owner of the Canada

Citizenship Application Discrepancies

· Multiple applicants are using the same contact information, such as home address, mailing address, phone number, email address, but did not submit their applications together as a family
· Multiple applications are submitted in the same handwriting or type pattern but section 12 is not completed
· The date on the application occurred at a time the applicant was outside Canada

It is also important to remember that if you receive a residence questionnaire for your Canadian citizenship application, and you do not think that you will be able to answer the questions or provide adequate evidence, you may withdraw your application and still remain a permanent resident in Canada.

However, if you receive the RQ in conjunction with your application for a PR card, returning the questionnaire is mandatory. If you do not return it, your file will eventually go under investigation and you may lose your PR status.

Except the "Travel outside Canada" 1st bullet none of the other points apply to me. My travel had been for a month twice a year to India/Czech Republic/Bulgaria/Philippines to assess suppliers of my employer. And then there were a couple of trips to US lasting 2-3 days each every year. I applied with 1106 days of physical presence.

Hi Beauhoe:

Thank you for the info

" Having a stamp in your passport that shows you have recently entered Canada when you take your citizenship test or verify your documents with a CIC officer (indicating that you have spent time outside Canada while your application is in process)"

Why does it matter where you are physically during the application process if you have already met the RO? just wondering...

Thanks as always

And what if the recent stamp is due to a short trip back home, or a week-long visit to friends in US, etc?

Unfortunately, Your application will be returned and you have to pay additional $230. You should have opted in for express post however, no one was aware that time that they are going to increase the fees else the people would have sent it early by express post

Increasing application fee is just stupid in case CIC carries on its usual business of holding up applications till eternity.

Just an update on my application for Australian Citizenship:-

Applied on 5 December 2014(paper)
Notification to appear for Citizenship test(email) 12 December 2014
Citizenship Test on 12 January 2015

When the levels of suspicion/mistrust rise to astronomical level, what's happening here, that's what happens.

A process which should take a couple of months, takes years instead. I think somebody should learn.

I believe Canada should have managed its entry/exit system in a better way like Australia does. Each entry/exit entry is there with the immigration department and they can easily check the days of physical presence in Australia. This way people don't have to prove their physical presence in Canada.
