Don't worry , I am in same situation like you and still waiting!
But I think we are not late just some applicants got medicals majority in waiting boat.

Right now it say "your application was recieved on xxx". What is the next typical status update on ECAS ?

The status may change to "In progress" a few days after you receive the MR. Don't pay too much attention to the ECAS status. It's usually delayed.

The various stages in ECAS (for my application):
1. App Received
2. In Progress
3. Decision Made

If you click on the stages above, a new page opens up with something similar to this:

We received your application for permanent residence on XXXX, 2013.

We started processing your application on XXX, 2014.

Medical results have been received.

A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision.

I have sent the copies of the document attaching them over email.
Do I still need to mail the hard copies of the document to address given?

Nope, not required. They just need copies for T4 and NOA.

No Not needed , Soft attachment copy over mail is enough .

I sent T4/NOA for 2013 to CIC (without asking them), and yesterday I got confirmation email from CIC on that.
