OK - a bit off topic.

David Cohen (whose firm pays for the hosting of this forum) was quoted in a CNN article today regarding the results of the US election and Americans calling him to find out how to immigrate to Canada. :)

Have a read!

I saw that! I read it on Yahoo! News, then left a scathing comment about how Canada isn't the US's backyard or playground. Lol....

I can't wait for my Tea Party supporting father to ask me how he can "move" to Canada too. Sigh.

Too funny.

Does he know we allow same sex marriage, have socialized health care, and have decriminalized marijuana? He might hate it here more than he hates it there. :)

Luckily my dad isn't entirely insane. He's supportive of gay marriage... however he likes to jump on bandwagons because everyone else (his friends) are doing it. Also, he's done drugs in the past so that mary jane part might not bother him......... (Never, ever tell your 3 adults children 'Hey, did you know you can be allergic to cocaine' and NOT expect one - me - to ask 'Do you know this from personal experience?')

I might just tell my dad he's medical inadmissible. 50+ years of beer as water tends to ruin livers. :P

my husband and I were reading this earlier LOL I saw the ad Washington state was running about voting yes to legalize marijuana they said 555 million dollars is what the state intends to make off legal marijuana in a years time WTF LOL that would get the US out of debt in no time...

If you consider 28 thousand years to be "no time", then yes.

For people who have a legitimate medical reason, yes.
For all other purposes, no, it's still illegal and still part of the Criminal Code.

As far as socialized health care, that's something people brag about when they're not sick and have never been a victim of Canadian "health care". But as soon as you (or someone you love) becomes critically ill and are waiting MONTHS for a life-saving procedure that is readily available in HOURS in the U.S., let's see if you still proudly tout socialized medicine the same way.

thats 555 million for 1 state theres 49 more states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. and I didn't mean like tomorrow but hell it's better then accumuating more national debt...

Let's double it, and be really optimistic and say each state will get $1 billion per year. That's $50 billion annually. Now take a debt of $16 trillion, divide it by $50 billion per year, and you'll have the debt paid off in 320 years.

That's the problem most Americans have - they can't truly fathom the scope of the problem, and people like Obama are helping to dumb them down even further by pretending that everything will be fine if we just get those evil rich people to pay their "fair share". No, Mr. President, there's no amount of taxation you can ever do in order to pay down sixteen trillion dollars. A debt consisting of 12 zeroes will only be paid off by cutting spending.

there is no sense in arguing with you, the point is, it would be money coming in that wasn't coming in before sheeesh why do you take everything so flipping literal... anyways I made my comment, I could really care less if it's legal or not I don't smoke it but I'm starting to reconsider that thought... :P

You made the point - not me - that the additional income to the states would help pay down the debt. That's a fairly literal statement. And I simply pointed out that, no, it will NOT pay down the debt, or even a tiny fraction of it, because it's a completely insignificant number. Having money trickle in at the rate of a few billion per year will never pay down the debt, because the debt will continue to grow if SPENDING is not curtailed.

Any state which is trying to legalize marijuana under the guise of "it will help pay down the debt", is doing so dishonestly. Furthermore, with legalization, the states won't get ANY money because people will be able to grow their own and sell to each other.

The so-called "legalizing" in Washington state is anything but legalizing. The only thing that changed is that they now established a system of state-controlled marijuana growers, processors, and stores where adults can buy their dope (up to an ounce only). In other words, the state of Washington is now your dope dealer. That's why it's nothing but a sham. It was just a quick tax-grab from a liberal state that ranks in the top 10 of being the most in debt.

Its amazing how so many people think we have it so good and easy here ! Try waiting 6 hours in an emergency watching your partner have a heart attack.

I can't believe the average Romney supporter would prefer the social mores and level of taxation in Canada! I'd be less surprised if Obama had lost and some of his supporters wanted to move here.

Don't think there are not wait times like that in the US emergency room I went to the hospital I couldn't see my head was pounding I sat there from noon till just after 7 at night they took me back took my blood pressure and it was 271/131 the nurse ran and got the doctor and the doctor told me it was a miracle I was sitting there talking and not having a stroke. Canadians have it better because they can go to a doctor when ever they want no matter how long it takes to get seen, alot of Americans die because they can't see a doctor. how would you feel not being able to see a doctor at all? I would rather sit all day and see a doctor then not be able to and I don't say this to argue my point is no system is perfect and it never will be perfect. My husband and I also read another articles that says every year there are thousands of calls wanting to know how to immigrate to Canada depending on who is voted in wish I could find it now the numbers (from previous years) were crazy.... hafta see if I can find it and post the link...

Under normal circumstances, they wouldn't. But they see what's coming down the pipe in the next four years, and they have valid reasons to be fearful. By the time Obama's done with the country, Canada's level of taxation will seem miniscule by comparison.
