Hello, I received Canada COPR and travelled to Canada on May 31 2022 for soft landing from the US. I didnt stay in Canada and returned back the same day. The officer at the immigration post asked me when I intend to come in to settle and I give him the actual picture (later date). He said that I do not need to submit Goods to Carry or Goods To Follow forms in that case. He said I can bring those along when I come in to stay. He took a relative's address to send my PR card. I now have my PR card and will be traveling. My question is - On the PR card, the validity date is printed as July 27, 2027. I understand that one most stay a full 739 days in Canada in order to renew PR. this window of 739 days will be till July 27 2027? or does it apply from the date of soft landing? Please suggest.

From the date of soft landing
Got it, thanks. Can you please also point me to any reference doc on IRCC portal that clarifies this? I will be traveling next week anyways, but still wanted to understand it more. Also thinking that we need to apply for a new PR card before the validity of the current one expires. that allows me to apply for PR card till on or before July 27, 2027. But then why would 730 days be counted from the softlanding date is something I am trying to understand better.

You can live in Canada without a valid PR card so not actually an issue.

That is correct - people live there while they wait for their PR cards. so you mean the expiry date printed on the PR card is not the date before which the 730 days must be completed? that was my query. thankyou

In principle, you need to fulfil RO at any time to maintain your PR status. So, if you want to renew your PR card before the expiry date, you need to be in compliance at the time you renew it as well.
