Hi all,

I have a question regarding the date first became qualified to practice in occupation. I started my training/orientation in February, 2011 (full time and paid but it was only for about 2 weeks) but the actual job assignment (overseas) did not start until March, 2011. Should I leave February as a start date and explain in a reference letter from my employer that I was training in February??

Any advice will be appreciated!!

Bump.

I personally am of the opinion that, its the date you graduate with sufficient credentials (bachelors most of the time) to practice full time in profession related to your study.

Thanks much for your reply. Ah I was reading that question wrong then too.

Should I still put start date in Work History section as February as the training started in Feb?

NO!

The date you became qualified and the date you started working may very well be different. This is because, internships (training) is not recognized as work; At least in terms of CIC. I strongly suggest you put start date in work history to be the date which is mentioned in your work experience certificate (the letter you get form your employer) as the starting date of your full time work.

Your work experience must be:

at least one year (1,560 hours total / 30 hours per week), continuous full-time or an equal amount in part-time,
paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships do not count),
in the same NOC skill type (0, A or B) ,
within the last 10 years, and
at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Thanks again for your reply. My training was paid and full time but it was not continuous as it only lasted about two weeks in February. I'll put March as start date.
