Guys,

My application is in the AOR stage but I am curious to know the job scenario for data scientists in Canada if I have to move there. I am hearing lot of negative stories lately about how new immigrants have hard time finding jobs in Canada. Among those who have landed, has anyone experienced that?

Thanks

There are a lot of IT jobs in Toronto.

Yes - experienced / highly qualified data scientists are in demand. What are your qualifications and experience? Companies are generally looking for people with PhDs (Masters at an absolute minimum).

Yes, I have a PhD in machine learning currently working as data scientist in the US. Thanks for your replies.

hey - is it possible for you to send me a CV, you can remove your name contact number etc if reqd... i want to see your qualifications and certifications/experiences etc..

im thinking of doing some courses and move into data scientist role when i move to canada hopefully sometime next year... i have 10+ years of IT experience but not that good in programming... need to see what my options are and how i would scale myself over the next few months....

Do you have a PhD? If not, do you have at least one Masters (preferably two) - and in which disciplines? Courses aren't sufficient to make it as a data scientist. Companies are looking for higher education (again, PhD preferred).

Programming is not the same thing at all as data science. This is a common misconception people have.

A good way to get feel of data scientist role and evaluate where you stand in terms of what skills you have and what skills you need is to participate in competitions on kaggle.

Data scientist is combination of all these: programmer, statistician, story teller, strong communicator, and most importantly passionate about deriving meaningful insights from data. Most people are driven to pursue it because of perks, but without the passion and love for data wrangling one cannot be successful

Hi all,

I know this is a year old forum but the discussion is very relevant to my situation right now. So whoever can help me please help.

All the people who have asked their queries above have completed their course from some university but I have done data science certification from an online platform. Will I get a job in Canada?

Are online platforms recognized in Canada? The course I have done was in collaboration with one of the premier institute in India but nonetheless, it was online.

Please help!
