Hi guys I am in Damascus now, I wen to the embassy in the morning , they said the VISA immigration dep. are closed usually in th. fri, sat , so they said come back sun, so they did not even take my passport because the immigration dep closed for these days

aS I said before they work only 4 days a week, ya it ll be slow if they do that,,,,,,,,,

I have to sleep in hotel until mon, I have no idea what can I do here,,, but sitting in thr room wating as usually :)

Thats not too bad as hotels in damascus arent very expensive. Last year when my husband and I went the hotel was 2000 syrian pounds so about 20$/night lol its not your 5* hotel but it was still clean and neat.

Just to be clear, you submitted your application 2 months after completing the medical. which means if you can get your ppr in August or Sep, the processing time would be still less than a year.

if i were you, i would ask my spouse to redo the medical, but I would not send the receipt yet. that's a win-win scenario:

  • if your ppr arrives and they don't need medical, you will go an get your visa without mentioning anything. it may take 45 days until the medical results get damascus
  • if your ppr arrives late and they ask for medical, you will be ahead of schedule

just my 2 cents.

ya you're right that`s what i`m thinking of doing... the reason i submitted 2 months later because my husband was still in lebanon when he sent me the papers and he had to go back to gabon and get police certificate from there too and send it to me.

hang in there yayamarei. you're almost doneeeeeee :)

If it is safe to walk outside, I would suggest you to visit the Old City. It's very nice, a lot of things to see and visit and they have nice cafés also with free Wi-Fi ;D.

dear yaya, even on their website it says THURSDAY CLOSED TO PUBLIC but they arent closed, they work sunday to wednesday 8:30 to 4:30 thursday 8:30 to 1:30, so they work 5 days a week , just the public has to access on thursday,

i was talking to a couple of colleagues of mine yesterday and apparently their is a debate on parliament hill about the ambassador, the NDP is saying to withdraw glen Davidson(ambassador) but the conservatives said they wont bring him back anytime soon, so i guess that's kind of a good news that we wont lose the ambassador for a while,

and finally the day we knew was coming, obama DEMANDED that Bashar al-Assad steps down from power....... oh great here we go again, i hope it doesnt turn into libya since we know assad isnt going anywhere ,
oh well i guess we just have to wait and see,
another week of silence,

good luck yaya , have fun there since you know your done with this crappy process

i think the real bottleneck is the conservative government. there is nothing wrong in canada, but due to summer vacation, the step one processing time has gone up to 55 days.

our real bad luck is that the new government does not care about family sponsorship (and immigration in general). i bet if it were the liberal government, the situation in syria would make our cases faster too. they would likely send a memo and ask the officers to take it easy and finish the applications faster. how many cases are we talking about? more than 500 files in syria regarding spouse sponsorship?

just a thought.

Although we, sponsors, are Canadians or Canadian permanent residents, they do not consider us as human. Do they undergo medical exam each year to prove that they are disease free? Do they get police certificate each year to prove that they are not criminals? Can they imagine to be separate from their families for more than a year for none sense reasons? They are charging us for all the costs. They should be responsible and conclude our files in a few months no matter from where the applicant is coming.
