Don't trust him, he is an ordinary person like us and he doesn't know what is going on in the embassy. He just suggest a date so you leave him alone and stop contacting him.Don't lose your hope. It is just his own though and it is nothing close to the reality. When I talked to my lawyer he said " There is no activity in recent months in Damascus" how come we have many people here who got their visas during the last few months. just ignore him.
The visitor visa shouldn't be that expensive, are you sure?I think its better for us to go Damascus and follow the process by ourselves. Writing them letters and inquiries won't solve anything.
I'm sure he is wrong, you will see they will call you very soon. Its really hard but try to be patient. Wish you all the best.

Ahhh I'm very happy for you tbone to have gotten the visa. Congrats once again and hopefully the rest of you who have been in queue for a while will can an answer soon. Inshallah inshallah. As for me nothing yet.. Hoping for an approval letter in the mail within the next week or 2 inshallah.

To everyone in this forum!

I wanted to explain what happened to my wifes case from the beginning so you guys get a better idea of what I went through to get the visa..

1. When I got the letter saying that Damascus received the application they had trouble sending to the address I provided.. So they didn't end up sending it, they kept it there without contacting us via phone or email.. I went in person to get that letter..

2. Since I stayed the summer in Damascus I made it my job to go to the embassy and inquiry about the application every 3 weeks hoping that it will be done on time before I left to Canada.

3. Samething happened when we got the requested doc's, they sent the email to the wrong address so we would have never got the emIl unless I went there to pick it up.. At the same time I corrected the email address..
4. After a few months i came back to Damascus which means now and decided to go and inquire about the application and I found out they just issued the passport request a few days before.. We never got an mail till today requesting the passport... So in a nutshell if I didn't go to the embassy I would still be in the same boat waiting.. I never had a worthless lawyer! If I were in your shoes and had a lawyer ,ignore them and do everything yourselfs..

getting the temp visa is not an worth while.. I wanted to do the same and inquired about it.. The embassy said they would never give a temp visa to anyone the has a pr application in process..
Your lawyer is lieing.. He just wants to make cash off you..

Maybe I can go to the embassy in person as well. Does it require a previous appointment to enter the embassy or they will let you to enter on arrival ?!
Were they helpful to you ? I mean does it worth travelling to the Damascus ? Will they check my case up and tell me about it ?

You don't need to have an appointment to enter the embassy... All you need to do is go to the embassy before 11:30am and take your file number with you so they can look up your file right in front of you..

If I were you I would spend some time in Damascus and get it done..

I mean what about the queue !? will they waive it !?!!!!!! Cause my file is now complete and in the queue, What can I do if i go there in person ? will they put time to discuss about our application ?

Is there anybody who came to the embassy by himself or herself like tbone? Because if going to the embassy helps fastening the process, it is necessary to go. However, according to tbone, it seems the embassy is too disorganized and this would be really bad for us.

I have the same question as Iman. Is it really OK to go the embassy by ourselves and ask for the update.If its the case, it sounds somehow not right. Damascus deals with Mideastern countries which are not so much apart so its easy for most of the applicants to drop by and see whats going on there, but is it going to be useful, I'm afraid it will have some negative imapct??
According to Tbone information, it must be very easy they look at your file in front of u and after few days they will issue a visa

I have been in canada embassy in damascus when I got my pr,all employees are native and speak arabic and in that time i met somebody he knew a person in the embassy,so it is easy to speed up the process becasue just final decision is made by an officer.but for you eli i am sure they will issue visa before the new year.dont worry

Nice to have you here.Are you applying under spouse category? If yes, I'm sorry to tell you nothing is clear in here, you are right in their website its mentioned 9 months but we have cases which were finished in 6 months, and in other hand we have cases which are not finished within a year. So at this point nobody can suggest any specific duration, but you can count something between 6 and .... ( check our table it may be useful for you)
When I applied the website was totally different they have percentage for example it suggest 30% within 3 months, and 80% within 8 months, but recently they changed the format and just put 9 months. You have to consider, they put 40 days for the first approval in Mississauga so their suggestion is a total of 10 months. I don't wanna disappoint you but Damascus is not acting so fast and their processing time slow down sharply.Anyways I wish your are among the lucky ones and you 'll have a visa very soon.

Don't worry it will take some time, they are still working on application received on 22nd October.It mentioned it will take 38 days so you will be noticed someday between 20th December to 30th December.Be patient they will send you the letter very soon.Check out the link
