Hello everyone. i`m new here. i send my wife`s documents on may 2009. received and in procees in damascus since june 2009. i sent an e-mail on april 2010 to find out about our case. they replied and ask to be patient. and 3 days later they asked new medical and new police clearance. we sent the new documents in mid april 2010 and since then nothing new. it is going to be a year in a week that we are waiting. my wife sent an e-mail two weeks ago and they said that they received our new documents and its in the queue for review. what should i do? do i have to send them another e-mail or its better to wait?

be going thru the same bull with Damascus only it will be 2 years next month! 1st my husband was refused, waitied over a year to get an appeal hearing which we won and now it has been since Nov. 2009. We got a requst too for updated police check, medicals etc which we sent them 2 months ago. I just sent another email yesterday asking for an update forgetting that they would be closed today and tomorrow for the weekend.
Have you tried talking to your MP? Usually their hands are tied as well, but the can enquire for you and sometimes that is enough to light a fire under the officer in Damascus> I am giving Damascus till next Thursday and then I am meeting with my MP again.

Thank you very much Mingus for your reply. no i didnt talk to my MP yet. i`m giving them untill next wednesday and i`ll send them another e-mail. but i dont understand. because my wife and me never had any problem and i got my file accepted and was sent from mississaga to damascus in 28 days and there was never anything missing or any mistakes. thats why i realy dont understand why is taking so long. i will ask them updates next wednesday. i hope my e-mail doesn`t do any further delay in my case. thank you again and i wish you the best. i magine how dfficult is for you to wait all this periode. good luck.
things seem to move VERY SLOW in Damascus. However, they seem to reply quickly to emails. I heard back from this this morning ( about 3 pm thier time) saying htey are waiting on my husband's medicals, which I find hard to believe since they were done in early December.
They replied to my e-mail 2 weeks ago telling me that they received my wife's second medical and police clearance and her application is in queue for review. since then nothing new. It has been more than 2 weeks now. what do you think? How long is it going to take now? i am really tired .It is now more than a year.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to how long Damascus takes in processing cases. I have heard of some who get thru in under 6 months and then there are those of us who it seems to take years. I think that a lot of it depends on the situation of the application. This is strictly my opion and have no proof or anything but it seems to me that is you are a Canadian male PR holder or citizen of middle eastern background, trying to bring in your new wife from the same country/background regardless if it was a love match or an arranged marriage ( Islamic version of arranged) than it goes much faster.
Another hold up is usually the background checks. All depending on what is going on in that part of the world, these can take a long time. If CISI is busy, then background checks for PRs get pushed to the bottom of the list. Having a very common name can cause problems too. For example, it would take them a lot longer to do a background check on a John Smith here since there is so many of them ;D - not sure what the middle eastern equilvalant would be but you know what I mean

now they have all the information and all what i have to do is to pray and wait for their call or decision
I am really stressed and cant wait any longer
hope for all of us to hear good news before the end of the week and by the way they close early on thursday and friday is closed and they work on the weekend.
let us hope for the best and some one will continue the last touches on our files

Dont send many emails
give some time since they have respond 2 weeks ago and see what will happen. I am sure you will hear soon from them June 2009 is way too long time and they should make a decision soon. if you have a lawyer or representative they should inquire for you
