Hello all, I plan on working in Washington and living in Canada. I don't think my job qualifies as an essential worker. Does US CBP allow daily commute to US to work? Also when I return I have to quarantine as per Canadian laws, but that quarantine will only be limited to a night or weekend as I would travel back to the US for work next day. Is anyone here doing this?

Has anyone been denied re-entry into the US using AVR?

I just got my change of status from F-1 to H-1b approved, and I've been in the US at the time of the June EO, but I'm not sure if I'll be subject to the ban since I just got my H-1b approved.
I'm planning to move to Windsor in about 2 weeks, and I don't want to lose my job because I can't commute.

Hello Pro's - I might be able to apply for i485 (adjustment of status) per the new visa bulletin and is wondering if anyone is commuting across the border with a pending 485 application?
Can i commute daily from Windsor to Detroit with EAD and AP ? Pros & cons ?
If commuting on EAD+ AP is not allowed or riskier - How about daily commute on H1B with a pending 485 application ?
Will any of this situation impact my I 485 application ?

Cant be permanent resident in both countries without much problems/complexity. Check with your lawyer.

As far as i know, its not easy to maintain both PR and GC as you have to make only one country as primary residence and its waste of time and effort maintaining both. You need to give up one as its practically difficult and in many cases it will be problem proving at the border that you are intent to settle in that country(which one find trouble proving and might lose the status). Instead one should choose to stick to one and go with it.

Greetings!

I am a full-time IT employee working for a healthcare company in US and I have my H1-B visa stamp until Feb-2021 and my I-797 A and I-94 until Feb 2024. I have my I-140 approved as well. Can I work remotely from Canada for the next 3 years on my H1 while occasionally visiting US.

If not, I have a job offer in Detroit but that offers no remote work. So I am thinking of staying in Windsor and driving to Detroit on a daily basis. Given the pandemic situation, is daily commute from Windsor-Detroit-Windsor a viable option?

Thank you very much for your response.

Hello everyone,
I have Canadian PR with expired H1b currently in US planning to move to Windsor and commute daily to Michigan.

Anyone here who is commutting to US from Canada on expired H1b but valid I797 on Auto Visa Revalidation(AVR)?

I will really appreciate your reply.

I was in a similar situation in late 2018. You will be fine. You will have a paper I94 stamped with the I797A expiration date the first time you go to the US from Canada. Note that sometimes the officer may not be familiar with AVR; just politely ask to go inside and talk to a supervisor.

Hello,

Due to current movement in the GC final chart date, We are able to file i485 if you have priority date fall within the final chart date. if everything goes well then you will get EAD. As we know we can live in Canada and travel to the US daily on an H1B visa. my question here is, will we able to do the same commute based on EAD. I understand that you can still maintain an H1b visa along with EAD however we don't need to do. EAD will eliminate all the hassles of H1B. my doubt related to only l if you can cross the border on EAD. I recently moved to Canada on PR a few months back and traveling to the US on H1B. Don't want to move my family and stuff again back to us at least 3-4 years now.

GC: Its the dates of filing (not just final action date) is the one considered for this month hence its a big relief and big news. So more people can apply for 485 this month.

Maintaining both PR and GC: I already noted in this page at "Saturday at 8:32 PM". If you do consular processing then no issues.

On other forums folks are recommending to keep H1B till they get green card. Its all confusing like most things with legal immigration in the US.

Thank You. Were you commuting to US everyday or was it just one time visit to Canada?

Hi Friends,

This is Ajeya Gupta, my wife and I plan to move to Windsor from Michigan in January 2021 timeframe. I have some questions regarding this.

1. Can someone please help us locate 'safe' neighborhood in Windsor? We were looking at Portofino Riverside Tower, Windsor for rental apartments (which is along the Detroit river). Someone mentioned that the Riverside Dr East is better than Riverside Dr West. Can someone help us clarify this?
2. Has anyone crossed US-Canada border in recent times? Being a Permanent Resident, I dont see any issues with entering Canada via road from US. However, has anyone tried entering USA from Canada side while on H1B visa? Do we need to produce any specific documents while entering USA via road?

I appreciate your help on this.

Thank you,
Ajeya

Hi Guys,

Any help on the Windsor safe area recommendation would be appreciated. Once again, we are looking for a rental place in Windsor downtown area (more specifically, on Riverside Dr Road). I was hoping for someone to chime in with their opinion of how good this area is.

Thank you,
Ajeya
