CUSTODIAN FOR STUDENTS

Hi everyone, can anyone please tell me who can be a custodian? i want to study in canada and i will be 17 at the time of application but i do not know anybody in canada. then do i have to wait until i turn 18 and then apply since i do not have anyone for custodianship? plz help!

As far as I know, you can apply online without a custodian. There is 20% chance that they might ask you to come for an interview.

thnx.. but the cic website says if you are below 18 you need a custodian in canada... are there no custodianship services available in canada whom i can make my custodian? or does it have to be only family and relatives?

You can make anyone your custodian. Some universities also have representatives that can act as Custodian, but you have to pay like 300$ for that. I opened my application online for Study Permit when I was 16, and it required the custodian form then. Then 2 months later I turned 17 and the Custodian requirement was gone. I searched and found out through some paper based applicants who received visa that custodian is optional after 17 and not required after 18. You can apply without the custodian form if you are 17.

Colleges and universities often have homestay services for International students, you can book a homestay and make a member of your host family your custodian until you turn 18.

thanks... i will only be 17 at the time of application but when i start my college that is from mid january i will be 18. i was just confused because in the cic website it says at the discretion of the officer... so i was just thinking what if they want...anyway thanks ... then i will apply without any custodians...

i can but then i will be having a gap of more than a year...i would wait if i feel that being 17 can be a problem...but u said its okay to be 17 even if one doesnt have a custodian rite? or should i wait until the september intake?

If you are 17, apply right away without the custodian.
