So my friend created his profile while with his old job which provided him with enough points and just got his invitation to apply. Getting the reference letter for that old job is no issue he just started a new job and hasn't been there for long and is still on probation and is uncomfortable requesting the job letter. Will that create an issue for his application if he only provides a job letter from his previous job and not the current? e.g if he lists it in his personal history but then there's not a work reference letter for it.

If you list it in personal history section only, then no reference letter is required. You can explain this in your LOE as well

Hmm ok as long as it doesn't cause a problem. he doesn't want his current employer to think he's leaving as he just started working there.

As far as i know reference letters are only required for jobs that you are claiming points for,i didnt mention my current job for the exact same reason

Yeah I agree, you only need to provide reference letters if you are claiming points for those jobs. I was on the same boat where I started a job like 2 days before submitting my application so I didnt want to be like "hi, thanks for employing me and btw I need a reference letter for immigration". I included it in my personal history but didnt claim any points for it. If it makes him feel better he can add a LOE and say that he started a new job on XYZ day but will not be claiming points.
