Dear Friends

I work for a US MNC in aerospace industry as Manager based in Abu Dhabi .I am Indian male, 38,an aircraft engineer with 16 years work experience.

There was a managerial opening at Toronto for which I applied internally and have been selected. The offer is CAD100,000anually, and I am negotiating with them at present.

My present salary(tax free) is 11,700 USD per month.

My question to experienced members hereis that is CAD 100K a good salary in Toronto for a family of 2?

Also considering the lower income and high taxes does it make sense to take this offer?

I understand Engineering Manager is a occupation listed in skilled worker program and if I get the job, how soon can I apply for PR and how long is the processing times?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Thats great. Normally it takes 1-2 yrs for processing, but for those persons who got job offer letter, processing will be quicker. but u can apply for PR from canada itself. processing will be quicker if u apply frm canada.

Dear JGD,

It's realy great Achievement.

CAD 100000 is an very high salary, infact Canadian Born peoples are not able to get these figured, u cn live a wonderful & comfortable life.

Presently u r njoying TAX FREE Salary & in Canada u need to pay 30-35% from package.

Choice is urs :)

After continues living in Canada for 1 or more yr, u cn directly apply for PR & i assume u r file processing will be quite fast may be in 8-10 months.

As someone who was born in Toronto and has lived here my entire life, I would say $100K is a good salary. I wouldn't say it's very high because the cost of living here is high. And keep in mind that a good portion of the $100K will be lost to taxes. It is not uncommon for people who live in Toronto to have a salary greater than $100K. I would say that two people can live a comfortable life in Toronto on this salary - but certainly not an extravagant life. Unfortunately I can't compare this to Abu Dhabi as I've never lived there.

I would encourage you to look at rental rates and house prices through mls.ca. Also, fine one of those online tax calculators and enter the $100 salary to see how much you will actually take home after tax.

Dear dmiriy10,Smip86 and scylla

Thank you for your guidance and kind words.

I am hoping to stretch the package some more and look forward to positive developments.

Thanks once again.

look for what kind of other perks they are providing with the position...for example: car insurance is a bitch here so if the company is providing you a car there goes your around $500 needed to keep a car...then there are health benefits, ability to move up in the company...
