Why take risk with cash CAD? Go for 'American Express Travelers Cheques' at least you shall get full refund within 24 hours if lost or stolen.

I totally agree with enfield on traveler cheques' advice. Being an American Express Employee I would suggest you to go for AmEx traveller Cheques'. They are the safest way of carrying cash abroad and offer lots of benefits and protection.

You can keep some cash too, like thousand bucks ...which should take care of the first few weeks expenses and use travellers cheques for anymore amount.

I am not too sure about the differences between the two but for sure will find it out tommorow. I will speak to a travel counsler at American Express and get the information.

Just for information can you tell me which card (financial institution/network like VISA, MasterCard) was offered to you. With this information I will be in a better position to ask my colleagues and give you a specific answer.

Hey Bro,

I just spoke to someone in American Express Traveler Cheques - Sales and got the following information from them.

You can buy traveler cheques from the following institutions:

 State Bank of India
 Thomas cook
 Cox and Kings
 Centrum
 FRR ForEx

In addition, American Express has not launched a traveler's card (foreign currency) as yet in India. So, whatever card the bank is offering you, you will have to get the information from them regarding withdrawing money from it along with any fees that's applicable.

I tried to ask the same thing from the sales team in my office but they were unable to commit to one particular price. I think probably it because of volatility in the all the major world currencies vis-a-vis INR.

But looking at the price which you bought the dollars, it seems pretty reasonable.
