Hello :)

I am just approaching the 3 month mark since my application for permanent residency has been received. (I applied under conjugal partners in the family class). Anyways, my boyfriend was approved as a sponsor and they forwarded my application to Buffalo, New York, because I am applying 'outside of Canada'. I was wondering, is there anybody who is in the same position as me, or has been through this before? I was wondering about how much longer you think it will take before I hear something back.

The CIC website says there is a 30% chance that it will be finalized by 4 months, and 50% by 6 months. I received my first letter approving my boyfriend as a sponsor within 7 weeks of sending in my application. What are your thoughts about my chances of approval within the next few weeks?

Thanks in advance! I wish you luck in your immigration process as well! :D

I don't think anyone here can comment on your time frame. If anyone can, please let me know ASAP, because I would sure love your psychic powers used on my application-in-progress!

Timelines depends on the quality of the application you put together, whether or not there are any question marks at CIC, the IO you happen to get reviewing your package, how busy the visa office is, etc etc etc. I think the only thing that anyone can say is that MOST applications are processed in 6-12 months. Some people get through a lot quicker, lots people don't, some people are rejected and must appeal - a process that can take years. There's no comparing anyone else's progress to yours, unfortunately. Every case is different.

Thanks minna!

I know that there is no real time frame for anybody, I guess I should have addressed my question a little more specifically. And even so, it's not a great question to ask because everybody's applications are different..I was just wondering if the chances for approval are more likely if the sponsor is approved so quickly. I sent in my application, and received my first letter 7 weeks later granting approval on the Canadian sponsor part.

Thanks :)

Guess I'm just getting antsy pants.

Does anybody know how many applications Buffalo finalizes a year? The website states more than 10 a year, but does anybody know about how many people apply through Buffalo? Is it like hundreds, thousands, etc?

Just curious. Not looking for an exact answer, just a guesstimate.

no problem

Buffalo processes EVERY application coming from the US - family class, work permits, study permits, skilled worker visas....plus, I believe even if you are from another country, if you have been in Canada for a year legally, you can choose to have your case processed by Buffalo rather than inland or your home country...but I don't know much about that.

7 weeks is about normal for receiving sponsorship approval - currently that takes about 42 days (according to the CIC website). It's great you got approved to be considered as conjugal partners, though - that is something that I understand to be fairly rare!

That makes me happy to hear! I just hope that all is going smoothly still. Sucks being apart, but it's what makes our relationship so much stronger. Are you in an immigration process as well? I love to hear other people's stories because it helps me to understand the process a little more. I'm new to all of this, and the only information that I know is from the CIC website, and what I have been told to do from the border patrol when I was issued a visitor record.

Are there any other sites that you would recommend that I visit to learn more. I've got about 4-5 websites that I check regularly to make sure that I am on top of my game, and read newsletters, and all that jazz to try and make sure I know what I'm talking about. But there is soo much to take in. What would you say is the most important that I know?
