CRS points for Commercial Pilot Licence

Hello,

I've seen a few topics about commercial pilots here, but none were like my case and/or were not answered.

I've done all my training in Canada in a Designated Learning Institution flight school under a full-time study permit of 18 months.
My licence is not converted from another country. I've done all ground schools, all the written tests and flight tests in Canada and gotten a Commercial Pilot Licence issued by Transport Canada.

I'm wondering if the licence is considered a certificate and if it would give me any points for the express entry and if it does, how to classify it: under 4b or 7?

"4b) Have you earned a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate?
Note: to answer yes:
  • English or French as a Second Language must not have made up more than half your study
  • you must not have studied under an award that required you to return to your home country after graduation to apply your skills and knowledge
  • you must have studied at a school within Canada (foreign campuses don’t count)
  • you had to be enrolled full time for at least eight months, and have been physically present in Canada for at least eight months
7) Do you have a certificate of qualification from a Canadian province, territory or federal body?

Note: A certificate of qualification lets people work in some skilled trades in Canada. Only the provinces, territories and a federal body can issue these certificates. To get one, a person must have them assess their training, trade experience and skills to and then pass a certification exam.
People usually have to go to the province or territory to be assessed. They may also need experience and training from an employer in Canada.
This isn’t the same as a nomination from a province or territory."

In my opinion, it should be under #7 because it is a certificate of qualification that let people work in a skilled trade (skill trade B, NOC 2271) and it was issued by a federal body. I've also been through training and certification exams to asses my skills and experience to get the licence. But I've also been enrolled full time in a school within Canada for more than eight months, so I'm not sure.

Just wondering which one should I use. Has anyone had a similar experience or anybody with full understanding of the matter to give a hand?

Thank you.

Hey ysforner,

Have you got an answer for this matter yet? I have the same doubt, and would appreciate if you shared your findings.

Thank you.

So, my process with immigration is still going as of now (Aug 06), and I don't have a definitive answer for this yet, but what I have found is that in order get points through #7 (certificate of qualification from a Canadian province, territory or federal body) the job has to be listed as a skilled trade work on the province/territory you are applying. Unfortunately for me, pilot it is not listed as a skilled trade work in Alberta, so I couldn't get any points for that. (More information on the CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=743&top=29).

As we usually don't get any documents from our flight school saying that we've completed our training (our booklet and licences that are issued by TC, not the flight schools, are our proofs), I requested my flight school to give me a certificate and a letter of completion of all my training (CPL/MIFR) as you would get in a "regular" college/university and sent a copy of everything to CIC. Being in the country in a study permit and checking all the boxes noted on 4b, you should be able to get points through Education.

Hope this helps!

Hey, Has anyone got an answer on this question? I am going to be starting my flight training in Canada soon, all my training will be done in Canada at a designated Learning Institute with a study permit.

I want to know also if the CPL will earn points under section 7 as a Federal Certificate of qualification as it is a requirement to work under NOC 2271, under section 4 if the flight training done at my flight school + the Certificate will at least count for a one or two year program at a trade school or other Institute and under section 4b have you earned a Canadian degree diploma and certificate.

Any Pilots out there who went through this process and can confirm?

Did you do it at a college or university? If not WES will not evaluate a license. Most commercial pilot licensed are not evaluated by an ECA unless completed at a college or university.

Any luck yet? Did you score those extra points for your pilot training?
