Hello,

I am 26 year old male

I will be getting married this February and am looking into sponsoring my future spouse under family class... we met over two years ago while I was living and doing volunteer work in the Phillipines.. I have been stressing out about this for some time and after reading other threads I am more confused and worried. I hope someone can give me peace of mind... less than five years ago I was charged with Uttering threats to destroy property and a Mischief charge. The threats were towards my ex girlfriend after a break up.. The incident happened on Feb 3 2013.. but I was not charged until January 09 2014 because I moved to a different Provence shortly after the incident happened. I accept full responsibility and can only blame myself for the stupid choices I have made. All i can say is i was young and dumb dumb and have done alot of growing up in the past 4 years. I am now wondering if my past will effect me being able to sponsor my future wife ? Should I wait until five years has passed to start application process? I have talked to immagration lawyers who have said I am eligible.. but I still have doubts... any input would be appreciated

Thanks

Read the part about rehabilitation:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/conviction.asp

This applies to the person being sponsored, and not the sponsor. For the sponsor, there is a sponsorship bar for certain types of charges:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2011/2011-11-23.asp

It is good that you are owning up to it and not making excuses. It shows that you have done a lot of maturing over the years. Have you already revealed this to your future wife? During which period of your relationship?

So my conviction is not considered violent and obviously not sexual crime... so It is unlikely that I would not qualify as a sponsor ?

Hi guys !
I am in process of sponsoship for more than 14 months, in February I received a letter from the VO called Procedural fairness for criminal inadmissibility by a DWI in Texas, and send the rehabilitation application, the payment and all the supporting documents, Someone knows how long it will take in answering if it was approved? I appreciate all your comments and advice!
