criminal record after the CoPR

Hi i have been charged after receiving for Copr.. went for landing and was told bt CBSA to return after the court decision. Should I still goto Etobicoke office and try... or would they informed by CBSA about my try for landing.

It's certainly possible that CBSA has informed CIC, but even if they haven't, you wouldn't be able to land.

One of the questions that you will be asked at the landing interview/appointment, is if you've been charged or convicted of a crime and you would have to say "Yes'.

Even if you were able to land [somehow] it's possible that the charge would now make you inadmissible, which would jeopardize your PR. You have to abide by the same inadmissibility issues even after getting PR. It's not until you receive Canadian Citizenship, that you don't have to worry (as much) about being thrown out for a criminal conviction.

I have my work permit... Which expires on September 2014... do u think i will be eligible for extension of work permit or any other permit so i can attend and fight my charges which i am certain will be withdrawn... My CoPR is valid till June 2015. Any help wud eb much appreciated.. Thanks

Hi,

you should consult with a specialized lawyer as this is a really serious matter that could cost you the lost of your immigrant visa,only the lawyer after examining your case in details can tell what are the steps to be taken if there is any.
no one here can give you an exact answer because we just know your story briefly and all we can say may or may not happen.
one thing for sure is you can't land now because you are inadmissible to canada and must wait for the court's final decision,you might not even be able to extend your work permit if the forms asked about criminal convictions but i believe there is some sort of temporary permit,im not sure.
the most important thing is to get this issue at the court resolved before your COPR expires because its not extendable,meantime if this goes beyond your work permit expiry you must make sure to maintain a legal status in canada as well.
