I am just curious so asking this question... credit card statements are preferred over debit card statements to prove residency ? If yes why? Or both serve the purpose?

Did you get a request? For me I’ve never gotten a Debit card statement. It comes out right away, so it’s basically my bank statement which shows far more than debit card usage.

Now my credit card statement only shows payments on that card... and it’s a seperate statement I can easily get and print...

Both statement can be checked by online banking, both are equally valid. If u been asked from IRCC to provide any of these (which is not likely) it must be mentioned specifically which one is required to prove.

Not sure if it's different per bank.

But based on my own bank's statements, credit card statements show the city and province of each transaction...and therefore give more information for your residency. The debit card statement only shows the name of the account/establishment, not the location. Again, this is just how my bank does it. Maybe your bank's debit card statements show the location or something.
