Finally got a passport request! They told us at our interview in LA it would be another month or two (or maybe less) until everything was finalized, and for once they actually gauged a timeline accurately! Yessssssss!!!! Updating the spreadsheet felt reeeeeeal good! :D

Wow. That's awesome! She told me it would be another 4 months (at least) at the interview.

Congratulations!

It might come earlier for you too! They said it would be a month or two for ours, and it was less than three weeks. Maybe yours will come in October. I really hope so!

Yaaaaay!! Congratulations! We must have been in the same batch, haha. We got a request for a photocopy of all the pages of his passport and new pictures, which sucks cause we redid once already them in LA, but I think that guy in the Walgreen's didn't know what he was doing (though he claimed he knew all about Canadian photo requirements, clearly this is not the case).

Hi Everyone, looking for some help!

I had posted another thread here in regards to my situation, but I can't post the link..

I am in a bit of a dillema. As of this writing I have 22 Months left on my Open Work Permit, and am a US Citizen.

I am just about ready to file my application for Permanent Residency, sponsored by common law partner of 3 years. I am getting fingerprinted on Friday so I can get my police certificate from the FBI. However, it seems they now have delays of up to 12 weeks for the Police Certificate on their end..

Additionally, I noticed the assessment time for Ottawa is now at 16 months based on complete package... and I feel if I wait to get my police certificate my work visa may expire.

While I wait for the police certificate, should I send in part 1 and 2 of the application minus the police certificate, and mail it when I receive it? Or, can I apply anyway, and they only require the police certificate once it's requested? I'd like to be able to get at LEAST part 1, or the sponsorship assessment out of the way.

Or, worst case scenario, I can apply in-land and be granted the Open work permit, or apply under Canadian Experience Class (I'm eligible), but then I'd have to take an english test.

Or is there reason to believe it won't take the 18 months as forecasted on the processing times page?

Thanks!

You run the risk of having your application sent back as incomplete if it doesn't have the police check. You could always explain you are waiting for it to come in and will send it at a later date but again, you are taking a risk.

The outland US applicants go to the Ottawa Visa office and the office has been moving at a pace of 3-4 months for complete application packages.

However, if you apply inland, YES, they are really backed up right now. I did read that the processing times are very long and they even encourage applicants to NOT do inland.

Thanks for your feedback. Do you know why if the pace takes 3-4 months for a complete package, they post on their website as 16?

I asked this questions as well someone told me that this is the average from last year. The 3-4 months has only been lately that I know off. It can change at anytime. CIC is very unpredictable.
