CPC Ottawa asking for second medical report???

Hey Experts,

I need some help! I'm helping a family friend with their Outland Spousal Sponsorship application. They are about 8 months into their application at this point. Sponsor has been approved months ago. All additional documents requested were sent in. Out of nowhere...CPC Ottawa sends an email requesting that the principal applicant (the wife from the USA) submit a medical examination with an attached form. She had this done 8 months ago and sent it with their original application package. They say if this is not sent in within 60 days it can jeopardize entire application.

I called the CIC call centre and they confirmed that they have her original medical on file and that it does not expire until the end of October 2014 and so they are not sure why Ottawa requested it. I emailed CPC ottawa 4 times on the applicant's behalf. Also sent them a fax. It's been one month now and they have not responded to a single email or my fax. I called CIC call centre again and explained the situation. They confirmed again that the medical is in the file and are not sure why it was requested, but suggested I keep waiting because "CPC Ottawa ALWAYS responds to emails and/or faxes". This was 2 weeks ago.

So my friends...what to do? Time is running out. They don't want to undergo another medical as this will cost them close to $200 (Applicant is in Canada now without medical insurance). I also don't want to suggest they hire a lawyer because I'm sure it will cost more than $200. I looked online but CPC Ottawa considers themselves royalty and decided that they should not have a listed phone number. I want to talk to a LIVE person there and give them a piece of my mind. In the meantime though...any recourse? Should they just suck it up and re-do the medical? Has anyone ever experienced this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Banjo

Medicals are only valid for 1 year. They are requesting a new one which should be done. If they don't summit this before the date they request it a decision will be made and it will not be the outcome they are looking for . The medical is not covered even if they had insurance or lived here .

it has been noted before ottawa will not respond to an email that does not match the EXACT contact information listed on the applicant's application (even if the person is a sponsor). Generally only the APPLICANT and any representative that was formally appointed in the application will get responses about the application. are you listed as a representative on their application? if not, then i don't understand why it would be expected CIC would respond to your requests. perhaps the applicant will have better luck if she reaches out on her own behalf and get a solution.

I think there is something wrong with your timeline. If the medical is going to expire in October 2014 that must mean the original medical was done in October 2013, not 8 months ago.

Either way, she is going to have to redo the medical in a few weeks anyway. Why not just go ahead and do it now. I know it sucks to have to do a second medical but a lot of people on this board have had to do so. Unfortunately it’s just part of the process.

I am the authorized rep on their file so yes, they should answer to my email address. In terms of their timeline, they got the medical back in October of 2013 I guess, but until they actually sent in their application, it was already January of 2014. That is why it expires in October of 2014. I imagine that until I get through to my MP it will have already have expired. I guess I will just advise them to have it redone.

Oh well. Stupid CPC Ottawa...

If you are only the authorized rep, it's nothing to do with your MP. The sponsor needs to be contacting his/her MP and asking them to send CIC an inquiry. It's not that hard to get in touch with an MP and it certainly wouldn't take until the end of October.

I advised the Sponsor to contact the MP as the MP's office said they need to come in to sign authorization forms in order for them to make the inquiry. The sponsor is leaving town for two weeks and the 60 day time period that they requested the new medical will expire by the time the sponsor returns. I don't think it's worth risking it. I advised them to just resubmit a new medical.

That seems like the sensible solution. If the applicant can't get her PR and land by October 2014, she is going to have to do her medicals anyway so she should do it asap so that they can't refuse her application on the grounds of not having complied with the request.

Your friend should have done the medical in January, closer to when they applied. This would have given maximum time of validity and possibly have prevented the requirement to do a second medical.

Visa office asking for a medical now makes sense as the current medical is about to expire and I guess Ottawa doesn't want to extend the current medicals for whatever reason.
