You can order GCMS notes to understand what is the situation of your application, these take on average 30 days. This will tell you the actual situation of the file at the time the notes are generated.

Why have you been stopped several times, what is the motive driving CBSA officers to do that? I don't know what VR is, a visitor type of visa? Visa exempt countries normally get 6 months every time they visit but it's always up to the discretion of the officer at the border, it can be shorter. Showing reason to return is always good to show CBSA officers. If you have another type of VISA this may not apply.

I'm hoping to get PR BEFORE I go, but assuming that won't happen. We've been stopped several times because we visited each other so often. We were married in 2014, in the states. My husband had issues coming to visit every time before our wedding because he stated he was coming to visit his fiance' which was true but no one ever anywhere mentioned that we needed a (I believe this is what it was called....can't completely remember), a K# fiance' visa to visit me...so every time at airport my husband was questioned and harassed. We always made it through but never without hassle. I don;t normally get hassled, but I'm visiting here in Canada on a VR Visitors Record, every 6 months I have to apply for an extension to stay here with him while our PR processes. Our first year of marriage, I was unable to stay here with him, so we lived apart for the first year. We have been married 3 years and are STILL waiting to have a real life. I still can't work here, and we had to refile our PR twice as the first round of paperwork was ready to submit but we had filled out the old forms because they changed them a week before we were going to submit, so we had to fill everything out all over again. I'm worried that since we have our PR started and even though I am visiting in Canada, before our PR is processed, when I go home, I wont have a lot to prove my return to the states because our genuine intention is to have PR done by March at LEAST, and I would in fact be staying and living in Canada then....but since PR isn't done yet, or even close for all I know, I only have my family in the states, I am no longer employed there or have much proof that I would go home. I mean I would for sure if I had no choice, as I wouldn't want to jeopardize our immigration process but I'd have to stay with family and wait without him again. This wait is just putting lives on hold and their main objective is " to reunite families as soon as possible.....well 6 years is a lot of time in my book, and the stress, and the waiting for the PR and ZERO updates or ability to get them is insane!

Unfortunately I also know what it is to be questioned about your intentions and life situation at borders. The good thing is that it will eventually end but the bad is that until you get your PR you will always be taken in to secondary.

If I understand correctly you were issue a visitor record that you then extended while in canada? Visitor's records are issued when the officer wants to make it clear that you need to be out before the default 6 months. I guess he was worried about you overstaying or what reason was given to you?

At any rate, if you were able to secure extensions while in Canada thus maintain your visitor status it seems like CIC is ok with your situation, otherwise they would have refused your extension applications. Once you leave Canada you will no longer have a valid visa to stay in Canada so a new assessment is made at the border.

Given your past history I really think you should get into Canada bearing in mind until you are a PR you are not entitled to being in Canada. If you are flying, you should book a refundable ticket to fly back home after a few months and as much as proof as you can gather that you have strong ties to US. It would not harm to disclose you are flying back to wait for the PR process to go through alongside your wife as long as you understand you need to obey Canada's immigration law. Showing proof of funds that you can sustain yourself for several months would also be welcomed.

The best way would be not to leave Canada right now but it's understandable you must do so. I don't think they would give a US citizen a hard unless there are other issues you are not disclosing. Many US citizens are in the same situation, waiting in canada for the PR process to conclude.

This visa has nothing to do with Canada, it's a US thing. You are the one that needs to get informed about immigration laws and rules, you can't expect for anyone else to do this for you.

Well I can tell you that we asked every question possible to CIC and not a word about it. We HAVE done all the reading and asking for years as we have been dealing with this for years...thank you very much. I know the immigration laws and rules and probable more than most unless you are a CBSA or CIC officer.

Yes, I know all of this. I am the wife. The one immigrating. my only concern is the time it takes. Everything else I know. I have been reading, dealing with lawyers, and CIC, CBSA for 10 years now so I'm pretty sure I have a clue. The reason for my grip I guess is the same as everyone else (unless you are refugee or asylum seeker), because we've paid a lot of money to have ZERO correspondence and a non functioning website that they claim will give MONTHLY updates and doesn't and a phone number that is worthless. Same grip as everyone else I suppose...just ridiculous and stressful as you know I'm sure. At very LEAST i'd like to get an update on how things are going...not a letter 12 months in at some point that they needed something and we NEVER got the info. I check everyday, ECAS, online, CIC, phone....everything, EVERYDAY. 1 update would be nice.
