COVID-19 and CoPR/PRV extension !

No not had a response. I didn't actually ask for an extension. I outlined our plan of going over for 3 weeks at the start of August stating that I would not be able to get another police cert from my country of birth easily. And pointing out that it doesn't say on their website that this should be an issue. But I wanted to make sure as I have read a lot on the other thread and seen twitter messages from IRCC saying that soft landings are not deemed to be essential (currently up until 31st July). I would want to book flights on 4th August but can't wait until the last minute to do this.

Yeah I am worried that the information seems a bit contradictory and I don't want to take that risk. I would much prefer to travel at the start of August to get everything completed and we will book this once I am confident that we won't run into any problems by only staying a few weeks.

We could extend the COPR as that is allowed if you are 'unwilling' to travel, which would be us if we can't soft land. The COPR I don't think is the problem, its the medicals and police checks, as the only thing I have seen on IRCC website says these still need to be valid. If we have to redo these then it would really put a spanner in our plans.

I will let you know if I hear anything from IRCC on this thread (the other Covid thread is getting a little packed with irrelevant information) - and likewise, if you speak to someone there or find out anything, please share.

Thank you for your response. Apparently the CoPR extension also implies an extension of the validity of the medicals and police certificates by a few months. But this is all hearsay.

I am also super worried about having an expired CoPR and no confirmation of extension from IRCC. The lack of guidelines is really problematic.

Has anyone raised the 'ready to travel' webform yet? Please share the IRCCs response. I have heard they are asking for additional documents including resignation letters or school withdrawal letter for children. Dont know how true that is.

I think primary applicant is the only one need to , keep a note in request stating wanted to extend copr for all dependents.

Hey I'm in pretty much the same situatiom but haven't raised a webform yet. Copr expires August 8.

Have you got a response from IRCC re. extension yet?

Are you not a bit worried that they might say that you were technically able to travel so since you didn't do it you're CoPR won't be extended?

I am in the same boat too, my COPR will expire on Aug 6th and I have not raised a webform either (it also seems that we don‘t need to raise one anymore??)

It has always been my plan to do a soft landing, especially now with the uncertainty that the pandemic brings.
Also, I am located in Taiwan, COVID19 case has been very low here compare to Canada, hence traveling anywhere outside of Taiwan is not the smartest idea.

Having said all that I am also eager to complete the immigration process and soft landing seems to be most uncertain option here.
And I am also indeed a bit worried about extensions you mentioned, in cases such as mine since there are flights available (expensive tho).

Time is ticking and I am still uncertain what to do.

They will definitely give extension. Following is the reply for web form raised for inability to travel.

My father COPR is expiring on Sep 26, 2020. He has medical condition and is undergoing prostate cancer treatment which CIC is aware of as his cancer was diagnosed during immigration medicals only. Due to his ongoing medication as immunity is compromised because of medicines we feel it is not at all safe to travel for sometime. I am planning to file COPR extension. May I know how long we can extend our travel before PR gets invalid, basically what's the maximum extension period for PR ? What will be the correct date for me to file extension after or before COPR expires?

Guys, ever since this document has come out i've been pulling my hair out. Probably, i am reading too much in between the lines but can anyone please clear my doubt? how do we prove that we intend on staying? the document mentions house lease, job etc how is it possible in this situation to do any of this from India? if getting a job was that easy dn i wouldn't have rattled my brain out on ielts! my copr is expiring on 6th sept and i have been approved before 18th March 2020. Also i'm just not getting any decent flights to fly out.. my tickets have been rescheduled so many times.. would appreciate anyone's inputs. thanks

I don't believe this is true - they are not going to stop you from leaving the country. If you have no other way to get back into the country without the PR card, then you will have issues trying to return, but there's no evidence - official or otherwise - to suggest they will stop you from leaving the country. Most anecdotal reports from people making the trip have said that they haven't been questioned on the permanency of their travel, nor have they been asked to provide proof beyond their quarantine plan and the standard documents they ask for.

I think it is highly unlikely that you will even be denied entry into the country, unless you are being blatantly irresponsible (like many Americans trying to cross simply to enjoy themselves, disregarding the state of the world). As long as you're making an effort to stay longer than your quarantine minimum, search for work, apartments, etc. then it seems that will suffice. Obviously this isn't legal advice, but the experiences of many crossing the border with CoPR is promising.

The Canadian government has a vested interest in discouraging "soft landings" - statistically, it will simply reduce the potential number of infected coming into the country, and I think that's why they care much more about your quarantine plan and keeping you isolated during that time than anything else. The risk here is all about mitigating a potential vector for transmission, and I don't think they truly care much beyond that.

I agree with you actually and I am flying in 10 hours time. I'll come back and share the whole experience if anyone interested!
