Hello,

I live in Bangladesh my wife is a pr holder in toronto and she is currently living there. We were in deeply love for more then two years and then we decided to get married. But her parents didn't like me.So she left her house and came to Dhaka by herself and married me in the court.Afterwards there was a holud and wedding ceremony from my family. We went for a honeymoon also.We have a joint bank account also. There are many proof that clearly shows that our relation is genuine. Is that ok for applying ?as we don't have a nikah nama only we have is a court marriage paper/

thanks

Make sure when you do the application, you explain clearly why you haven't had the Nikah yet. Don't just leave it out, you must explain, just like you did here, the reasons you decided not to have such an important ceremony. Also, if you plan to do it later, make sure you explain and show proof of any plans to do so.

I would advise you to have the religious ceremony first before applying, as it is critical for a genuine relationship and strong case (CIC looks at much more than marriage certificate). I am not sure what you mean by "wedding ceremony from your family"? They want to see the photos off all the traditions in the religious ceremony and pictures with family from both sides if possible. If it is not possible for both sides to attend, you must explain why. Also make sure to include your honeymoon pictures and other photos of you together before and after marriage in different events, with relatives and friends, and outings together and photos from home. It is great that you have a joint bank account and you need to include statements for that.
hope this helps and good luck! :)

CHC-Singapore will not allow any court affidavit. The marriage have to be done as per Muslim Marriage Registration Act and you must have to obtain Marriage Certificate and Nikahnama. Both papers must be signed and stamped by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Law. Also you have to explain why her parents didn't attend the weeding. as your wife is over 18 so it really doesn't matter if her parents doesn't like you. but i hope you would try to convince them at least not to go against you ;) . sometimes the relationship between you and your in-laws matters. prepare all the docs, you wife's phone call record from Rogers or Fido whatever, gift cards, hotel receipts, emails, Facebook msgs (before and after marriage), minimum of 50+ photos together and with family members (write description, when and where the photo taken, who is in the photo on the back of every photo). its a lot of work to do and needs time so start it asap. when i've sent my app it was around 1.5 kilo of docs in the packet.

good luck.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I have recently applied and yes me and my wife had both the muslim marriage and the court marriage as well as an affidavit of conversion to islam for my wife. Do you think this would any way help prove my relationship? as it was genuine conversion from my wife but we are a little worried whether we should have added that paper or not. Please help.

Just to give you a quick review of my case: Me and my university love and currently wife (Canadian Citizen) are living in Bangladesh. I was an international student in canada for 4 years (2006-10). Then I overstayed for 6 months and when i realized i came back to my country voluntarily. My girlfriend followed me to bangladesh and we got married in Bangladesh on august 2011. We have been through a very ruff 3 year relationship because of this immigration issue. I came back just a month before my graduation in 2010 and never was able to go back. So I missed my graduation ceremony, missed one last chance to see my Father in law to be (at that time) who died of cancer on march 2011 (when my girl was months away from her graduation living in Sackville NB when her parents were in Peterborough ON). i tried to apply for a tourist visa and another study permit but got denied, But they didnt flag me though. We have evidence of about 150 pages of facebook msg, skype conversation details, cell phone msg details, 60 photos etc which indicates our relationship since the very first day to present day. We also provided travel details of my wife and in law family's coming to bangladesh for ceremonies and to visit before our marriage, joint bank acc in bangladesh, house lease, proof of her's bangladeshi parmanent residency, my IELTS (7.5) etc. My wife is currently working in bangladesh as a school teacher.

We have explained our heartbreaking story (Which includes year and a half of long distance) and every other occasion as the forms described. We have recently submitted our application and waiting for the sponsorship approval from Mississauga but by the look of it, it is gonna be a long time. My question is if my mother in law (In canada) wants to go to her MP when should she try? Also can anyone give me a feedback about the chances for my application provided that my application was well organized?
