Hi All,

I would like to apply to apply for study in Canada. I have a B.Sc and M.Sc degree in geography and GIS, both merit grades from a University in Nigeria and Sweden. Presently i work as a GIS/data analyst for the (2 years). My job involves extensive data analyses (geographic and non-geographic), business analytics etc. Furthermore, because of the present development of the Big Data field, I would like to enroll for a post graduate course in Data Analysis and Management. The challenge i'm facing is choosing between enrolling for a Post degree certificate in Data Analysis and Management or a M.Sc degree in Data Management from a good university(not considering colleges). Which of these 2 degrees will give me a higher chance of obtaining a visa. Will having an M.Sc presently affect my chances of obtaining a Visa as i'm not enrolling for a higher degree. I will appreciate candid and critical opinion (+ve or -ve).

Thank you!

M.Sc. in a university will be a better option for you. Yes, it will draw questions why you want to pursue another same level degree (either post-grad diploma or MSc) when you already have a Masters. Here's few things you can do:
1. In your SOP letter, you have to explain yourself the way you explained here.
2. If you can manage a letter from your current employer stating why they need you to get a degree in Data Analysis and Management; that would be great.
3. Showing that even after 2 years leave for higher education; you will still have the job - will prove home ties and the necessity of the above two.

[MSC is best for you, and having M.Sc presently will not affect your chances of getting the visa, i know someone who had a masters degree and applied for another masters in related field and still got it. so dont worry you can explain all these in your SOP]
