Couple of questions about the PR application.

good evening.

i hope some of the people in these forums can answer the following questions.

1) after sending my application how long do i usually have to wait to know if i was accepted? (im in canada at the moment)
2) after sending my PR application do i get implied status or i need to keep extending my visitor status until i get an answer?
3) if by any chance my visitor status expires before i manage to extend it, can i still extend it inside canada?
4) if i send an open work permit application with my PR application do i get the work permit before the PR gets processed or after i know if im eligible?

Does your application fall under express entry stream or is it a sponsorship? Your questions make it seem like you have applied through express entry....perhaps post your query here:

i applied under sponsorship for common law. Sorry for not clarifying that point.

As for (1, AOR should come within 2 months, hopefully quicker. The time until you get accepted as a permanent resident is likely much longer, around one year. It was 14 months for me.
As for (2 sending in the application does NOT give you implied status.
Not sure about (3.
As for (4, you can get your OWP bevore you pass your eligibility, usually around 4 months after submitting the application.
Please check on the CIC website for current processing times - these change over time.

thanks for answering, thing is i thought that applying for an open work permit with the permanent residence gave me implied status until i get my final answer. So thats incorrect?

I believe that is incorrect, yes. You can only apply for OWP if you are in status. Otherwise you have to wait until approval in principle, roughly 10 or 11 months into your application.

im afraid the situation is not totally clear, my last visitor visa extension expires soon, but i already sent my PR and open work permit applications 4 months ago, they have been recieved and they are in process... my question is do i need to keep renewing my visitor status until i get my work permit or at this point i just wait for the open work permit and ignore extending my visitor's ??
