Country of residence

Hi guys,

In Jan I left my then country of residence (2012 - dec 2016 Belgium) and moved to Balears Islands (Spain) on a short-term work contract. However, it didn't work out and I moved to Barcelona (Spain) in april. I could not register as a resident in Balears because it takes like months there to get an appointment and submit the documents. And because I was not sure if I am going to stay in Barcelona, I changed the country of residence to my country of origin just before I received the ITA. So now, I am puzzled - did I make a mistake? In my opinion I am still not a resident of Spain, because I do not have the residence certificate. However, I am not sure what is considered country of residence by Canada (as I think they had it something like this - being a visitor to this country, etc.) And if being a visitor to the country equals residence for them, how do I prove it in the relevant documents?

Thank you in advance!

Being a visitor does not equal to holding a residence. Once you have legally regulated your new residence, that is you hold a valid residence permit, you should use that particular country.

So I am still considered a visitor here in Spain, and I did right when I changed my country of residence to my home country (again EU country), is that so?
