Hi friends,

I am not sure what to enter as my country of residence/current address for my ITA application as I have been returning to India regularly since finishing my studies in Canada. My timeline is as follows:

-Born/brought up in India
-Went to Canada in 2013 for Masters
-Completed studies in 2015 April
-Went to India in 2015 September for 8 months
-Received Post-Graduate Work Permit in 2015 October
-Returned to Canada in 2016 May to start looking for Job
-Had to return to India in 2016 July due to family emergency and am currently in India again
-Returning to Canada in 2017 March to finally start my job search again

So technically, I have only stayed in Canada for 2-3 months (May-July) this year, so I'm not sure if I should write Canada as my country of residence. If I write India as my country of residence, wouldn't it look weird as I have a post-grad work permit? Should I put my country of residence as Canada only?

Any help is appreciated...! Thank you.

Technically if you see, country of residence is the place where you are currently residing.
There could be number of people who could have PGWP on their name and they would not be working in Canada.
It would be better to tell the truth, add an explanation letter.

For the ITA application, whatever country you will write. The IRCC official will share your application with that country's office.

Anyone with the facing the same dilemma could add more information.

Thank you so much for your response.

Actually - if I write my country of residence as Canada, but put my Indian mailing address (as I'm still here until March), it would be conflicting - so yeah, I'll put my country of residence as India only. However, is an explanation letter really necessary here?

Secondly, you said whatever country I write, the IRCC (what's IRCC?) official will share my application with that country's office? What does this exactly mean? What are its implications?

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

I think once IRCC officials in Canada have verified your application, they do send the application to New Delhi (NDVO) for further processing if you have written the country of residence as India. The PPR will be issued by the country you mention.

An explanation letter is useful to remove any doubt that you think the IRCC official will have after seeing your application. As you have PGWP on your name, if you want to explain any thing about why you are in India currently, you can add an explanation letter.(Only if you think, it will benefit in removing doubts, but not creating more doubts).

Oh - so how long does this process take? I would be returning to Canada in Feb end - so what happens if the processing happens after that and the PPR is sent to my Indian address, etc?

You should be absolutely honest about this matter. SInce you are NOT currently living in Canada, you have to say India in your profile.

Once you move to Canada, send in a CSE to change your mailing address and country of residence.

Hope this helps.
