Hi All,

I received my PR in Aug 2017 and after a month my company moved to US for work. Now I came back to Canada. Its been 2 years out. I have been a student and worked for 2 years before PR. If I want to apply for citizenship, I need to wait 2 years + 6 months(from the previous presence) into account + 6 months to complete 1095 days. It will further shorten the time from Physical presence and will add further days to when I can apply for citizenship. Ultimately, I need to wait 3 years to get citizenship.

Am I assuming correctly or am I wrong here?

Yes, you need to have three years of presence in the past five years on the day you apply.

Given your situation, the earliest you can apply (assuming you do not leave Canada at all now) is Aug 2022.

You do get credit (.5 day for each day) for your time spent as a worker/student, but in your case it's not adding up to three years, and as you proceed down the timeline, the older days get chopped off, so you keep losing days. You pretty much have to stay here for three years starting now.
