Title says it all. Im 19 years old and a US citizen and i play online poker for a living and do well for myself. I go to Canada quite a bit to play with friends. So would there be any possible way to move to canada as a professional poker player?

Thanks Alot

You can apply as Self Employed if you are a sports man, now I am not sure if only Poker could be count as a Support. Wait for some one else reply.

You cannot move based using FSW1 or FSW2 since you can't get a job as a professional poker play (i think) and it is not on the list of ministerial instruction. If you studied in canada or lived there previously, perhaps then you could move there on FSW3.

You could move there using CSQ but not sure how much jobs and qualification matters for moving on CSQ.

Thank you. But I'm not sure what those acronyms mean. Is there a site that I could go to that has these FSW's and CSQ's etc. Thanks

One can go to canada as PR through various process. One is to apply as a federal skilled worker (FSW) which means you are given PR based on your economic value of your skills and this allows you to enter the English speaking part of Canada. There are three categories for this type of entry, one is that you have experience in a list of jobs that has been prescribed by the minister, one is that you must have lived in canada or studied in canada and the last category is that you have a job offer from canada.

If you fit any of these categories then there is a good chance you could gain entry to canada as a PR.

Quebec, the French speaking province, has its own rules for immigration and their skilled workers program is knows as CSQ and this (i think) requires the knowledge of French.

FSW is Federal skilled worker, you will find that program here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp
QSW is Quebec selected skilled worker, here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/quebec/index.asp

All immigration classes here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Being 19, without much education or work experience, it's highly unlikely you will find an immigration class you qualify for. As a US citizen, you can come and go and stay in Canada for up to 6 months at a time as a visitor. If you want to go through the border with less hassle, get a Nexus card, see http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/trusted_traveler/nexus_prog/nexus.xml

One way to get permanent residency would be to go for 2 years of college and then get a job offer and see about applying as a graduate through a Provincial nominee program.

I'm not very experienced in that question, but I know that it is possible, but it depends on several factors, including your income, legal status, and the immigration pathways you choose.
I also like playing poker, and to be honest, once I thought about becoming a professional player. But I also like other games, especially on one site, and you can View content and see what you can find there if you're also interested in such games. I've found there are a lot of cool slots, and I play only them. But poker is still my passion, and maybe one day I'll decide to go pro.
