Hi all

I’m sponsoring my common-law partner to become a permanent resident. I am just curious what the final fees are for the application process. If there is a ballpark amount anyone who has applied/sponsored has I’d love to know. She lives with me in Vancouver and we are applying for a Work VISA as well while we wait for the application process to be completed.

Thanks so much

You're looking at around $1,500 once you factor in the medical.

Thanks! Is there an in person interview that’s part of the process. Also do we need to provide reference letters from people we know showcasing that our relationship is legit.

Interview is only required if IRCC has concerns about the relationship.

As for your other question, there are a number of requirements and documents needed. You'll need to dedicate time to reading through the guide, application checklist and forms.

I am looking to sponsor my common law partner coming to Canada. I am currently working full time hours as a shipper receiver at a warehouse as well as taking full time classes. My tuition is being covered by a family member. Is this gonna be a problem when we apply as it says I need to financially support my common-law spouse for 3 years. Also she is here on a Student Visa that expires June 30th.

Shouldn't be an issue. There are no income requirements to sponsor a spouse. As long as you are not on social assistance / welfare - you should be good.

Is there a separate form my common-law partner needs to fill out for a work visa? We didn’t see any work visa forms in amongst the Permanent Residency package. I was told that while we wait for the Permanent Residency to be approved she is eligible to switch from Her Student Visa ( which expires end of June) to a Work Visa.
