COPR & rule of landing

Can some cofirm,
once you get COPR then you have to make landing in canada before your upfront medical validty of 1 year ?

Why asking, because after getting COPR in 2018 i wanted to defer my permanent landing until 2021 ?

Please recommend a way as I want to do permanent landing in 2021?

I have heard you can do short landing in canada just to collect your PR card sent by post, then go back to home country.But come back to canada in 2021 ? ( I guess PR card is valid for 5 years i.e. 05/2018 -05/2023) So if land before 05/2021 then I can maintain 2 yr residency rule out of 5 years) ( I am assuming the PR card will not include the PR visa/COPR on passport)

I am not sure about about the process so I am waiting for comments.

Yes, You can do short landing as Canada don't expect people to leave everything right away.
You can go back and come back again in 2021. You will still have 2 years till your PR card will expire and will be due for renew. If you will spend continuously after 2021 then there shouldn't be a problem for maintaining your residency status. Plus you can always explain your legit case to defend your residency. There are some exceptions.

As a PR, you must be physically present in Canada for a minimum of any 2 years within each 5 year period - in order to maintain PR status.

My apologies, I misunderstood. You can definitely defer your permanent move as long as you still meet the residency requirements. You just can't defer the initial landing after they grant your immigrant visa. If you don't do the initial landing in time then my understanding is that you need to start the whole immigration application process all over again.

It's neither of these. It's as of the date you land in Canada and become a PR.

No worries, its not your fault as I didn't explain it clearly & in details and I didnt use the term initial landing

The only problem for you here will be, as RiZ92 said, if you defer for 2 years then you're going to need to stay in Canada almost constantly for a while afterwards to meet the residency requirement. That potentially means no foreign vacations (which considering Canadian winters could be brutal), no business trips abroad and no trips back home unless you can really justify why you had to go. It could be a lot to commit to when you think about it.

You can do this - but it's a very bad idea and often creates problems for people. If you remain outside of Canada for three years, this means that once you return to Canada, you'll need to stay here for two years straight to keep your PR status. It's typically very difficult to do this since people often have a need to travel outside of Canada - also, family emergencies sometimes come up.

I would recommend you remain outside of Canada for two years at most.

What you guys have mentioned is true. Family emergencies is something that I have no control & cant be avoided. I will take your advice into account & will try to avoid 2 yrs continuous stay in canada.

Last thing just to confirm 5 years--- starts from the day I do my initial landing in Canada.
