Hello, I recieved my COPR ;D 2weeks after my Post grad WP expired. :-X

The COPR was issued 1 day after my WP expiration date.

I called to book an app with CIC to get my COPR validated.

I was told I am out of status and need to go to a POE.

The CIC website states the landed immigrant has to have their COPR and valid permit.

Obviously I don't have a valid permit.

My lawyer applied 9 days after my permit expired.....it helps but means I can no longer work! Eeeeek!

I'm now heading to a POE TODAY to get this sorted ASAP.

Has anyone had any experience with this.....I don't want to be inadmissible due to a non-compliance.

Stress, worry is an understatement.....! Any words of comfort/advice are greatly welcomed.

Since you have a valid COPR you shouldn't have any issues landing at a POE. The COPR makes you admissible to Canada.

Thanks scylla,

All was well at the POE both in US and Canada. Waiting time at Canadian border 4.5 hours but all worth it. Very relieved at last! :D

The OP was referring to the website information, I think it's an error but it says if you leave and re-enter Canada to land as a PR you have to have proof of status, which is ridiculous since you are technically out of the country landing and the COPR gives you that status once you land.

I think that proof of status is meant to be listed under the option to make an appointment with CIC WITHIN Canada to validate your COPR. Otherwise it makes no sense at all. Regardless my husband was out of status and we flagpoled with is COPR and had no trouble at all. The leaflet that comes with the outland COPR says nothing about having proof of status when you land.

I think the only issue would be if when his work permit expired he had remained in Canada when he should have either left or applied for visitor status. I believe if he was in Canada with no valid permit at all for any period of time he would need to apply for restoration first before activating the COPR, but I'm not 100% sure on that. This is one of those scenarios where it's better to get actual legal advice just to be sure.

My point is though if you leave the country you are resetting your status from a non-visa country, and if you are from a visa req country the COPR is the visa. If you have no status (aka in Canada illegally technically) and leave then come back with your COPR why would you need to show legal status in Canada?

My husband was technically out of status and landed fine.

If you activate the COPR inside Canada then the status requirement would make sense.
