CoPR received but name is wrong

Despite having emailed them the appropriate information regarding my name change months ago and having included copies of my new IDs and passport as well as a scan of the marriage certificate (I knew they had a real copy, but I didn't want to leave anything to chance), my CoPR is showing my maiden name.

The paperwork says to mail back the Permanent Resident Visa if something needs to be corrected. Is that the Confirmation of Permanent Residency or is it something else? Can I go to the border with the CoPR as is, if I also am carrying all of my identifications (driver's license, passport, social security card) and the marriage license? Honestly, we'll be carrying most of our copies of the application packet.

Please, even if you have a suggestion, I'm open to it. We were hoping to "land" in early February.

At a minimum I'd be emailing them asap to see how to proceed. I would expect everything with the incorrect information would need to be returned for correction, so passport (visa) and CoPR. I have read in these forums that they can correct the information when you land, but I would not take that chance without written authorization from the Visa Office (an email) that indicates you can do that. Better safe than sorry!

Ugh, that will be a mess. I'm American, but I'm currently visiting Canada. The CoPR is currently IN Philadelphia with my parents. I don't think I was actually issued a Visa due to being American?

ETA: Emailing them was already done again this morning. I asked them what should be done and resent them copies of my passport and identification. I don't hold out much hope for this as an option, because we informed them of the name change in September via email, with the needed documentation, and it was still issued with my maiden name.

sorry, didn't know you are American so no visa in the passport, though I am not terribly knowledgeable in that area. Hopefully they respond and provide direction to you right away. It is their mistake as you obviously provided the information.

Are you close to a "landing" border crossing that you could take a drive and ask a CBSA officer if they can correct the error on "landing". Or a phone call to a land border?

Are you planning a flagpole landing? Or going back to Philly first to pack and get CoPR.

On the upside, it seems that it may not be too urgent as you can enter Canada visit your hubby at will almost??

Let us know how it goes...

Depends from which country in America you are from. If you are from the US then you wouldn't get an immigration visa, but if you are from Argentina then you would. America is a very big continent, try to be more specific.

As CANzanillo explained you will have to resend the documentation and wait for an answer. If I am not mistaken in one of the pages of your CoPR it gives instructions on what to do if some of the information has changed... you should follow those procedures.

Be patient.

Somehow, I don't think it being their mistake will make it any better. :)

I'm not that far from Niagara, so it might not be a bad idea to do that. I've tried calling the CIC hotline, and the customer service representative answered my question with "I don't know." So that isn't encouraging.

I'm planning on going back to Philly to get my things and the CoPR. I could have my parents' mail the CoPR to me so I could flagpole, but that would still leave my belongings in the States. I might flagpole if I can't figure out if I'll be turned away. Driving a UHaul truck 700 miles to be told no... that would be annoying.

As stated above, I'm from the United States. Also, the letter that was included with the CoPR only says what to do if the CoPR is missing. It does say that if the visa is incorrect, it must be sent back in. It does not say what to do if the CoPR is incorrect, which is why I am confused.

As we were told on landing, the CoPR document must be kept forever, so take care of it. It is your official record of PR. So, it should be correct! If time is not of the essence, just send it back and have them do it right. One way or the other do you due diligence. You don't want to be rejected at the border.
