Hey everyone!
I was wondering if some of you would be willing to share their landing experience. My application has been approved and I'm waiting for COPR to arrive. First, will that come via email or mail? And second, does my husband need to be there for the landing? Also, did anyone do at Pearson airport and could tell me how long it will take and where to do it? Am I supposed to go through customs already as a PR? I know that there are 2 different lines...I appreciate your thoughts on this!

It will come in the post as a paper document that you need to sign for. There are instructions enclosed in the envelope as regards the next steps.

I assume he is the Sponsor and you are the Principal Applicant, if so, then no, you can do all of this by yourself as long as you have your paper COPR.

You are not a permanent resident yet, you have a Conditional Offer of Permanent Residence. So go through the normal 'foreigners' line. When they ask you the purpose of your visit, you just say that you are landing to 'activate' your permanent residence - make sure you land before the expiry date shown in the COPR!. They will ask for your COPR etc. then refer you to the customs office with your 'good with you' / 'good to follow' list. Others have said that the whole process at Pearson can take from 30 minutes on a good day to a couple of hours on a bad day.

My wife landed a couple of weeks ago at Pearson from Sao Paulo. Yes use the foreigners line when approaching customs - the whole process is rather straightforward. You will be asked some questions to confirm all the information is still accurate such as your Canadian address, your still in fact married etc. The process took about 30 minutes. You will also be asked if you have any additional items arriving after you to Canada, if so you'll need to fill out some additional forms.

The agents at customs were really nice and welcomed my wife to Canada. You will be asked to sign your COPR then so do not sign it before going thru customs - you will be given a copy (the one without your picture) after you sign it in front of an immigration officer. DO NOT worry about landing or having any issues - just read the instructions when you receive your passport back and COPR. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

all the best and wish you both a happy life in Canada - We are living in Toronto.

cheers,
John

actually this will depend on whether the person is visa exempt or not. generally, for visa exempt people, the COPR comes in regular mail in a brown envelope. no signature is required. the "instructions" that come with the COPR are not helpful really. unless something has changed, they don't actually tell you anything about the landing procedure, and can be confusing. if the person requires a visa, then it will come in the self-addressed prepaid envelope sent to the VAC for processing.

basically landing is you and an immigration officer signing, initialing and stamping the forms. it takes about 15 minutes for the actual procedure. how long you wait depends on how long the line is at immigration. the questions they ask will be typed on your COPR. when you walk up to the customs window, all you need to do is hand them your passport and COPR and tell them you are landing as a PR. They will then direct you where to go. no, your husband will not have to be there. he is not landing as a pr, so they will only want to talk to you.

Hello, my husband received his paper COPR in the mail with his PR picture attached. Once he lands in Canada and an immigration officer signs his COPR, how does he receive the PR card? Does he give the immigration officer at the port of entry his Canadian mailing address and the PR Card will be automatically sent?

Yes, they officer will send it in for the PR card and use the address your spouse gives him.
