Hi. I could really use some help here. I am in the process of applying to a college. I am yet to leave my native country. I had actually planned on arriving just before my program commences.
However, the college has emailed me asking me to provide proof of citizenship (Canadian passport) or my PR card.Am I mistaken here, or is my COPR not enough as proof of being a domestic student?

If you haven't landed, then you're not a PR yet. The landing process fully establishes you as a resident, and then you can get a SIN number and all the other benefits of being a resident.

You should email the college with a copy of your COPR and discuss this with them. You may have to fly to Canada before you originally planned to, even a 2-day trip will be enough to get your COPR stamped and get your SIN number. You can then come back to your native country and continue with your original plan

Thank you for your prompt reply 21Goose.
Wow, that actually changes alot of what I had originally planned.

It's just that the college is saying it needs this proof inorder to process my application as a domestic student. Or else i 'll be charged the international fees! And I'm short on time since classed commence next month. :(

Well, they're not wrong. You are an international student right now. You need that SIN number.

Talk to them and see what they suggest. Maybe you pay the international fees right now to secure admission and they give you a refund once you become a PR. I'm sure they can come up with a solution.
