My visa expired on 2 June 2020. I am planning to travel next month i.e September. I am supposed to fill a webform that I am ready to travel. Did I have to show my ticket details too?
Also, I have to share my quarantine plans. I am thinking to go to government quarantine centre. Any idea how much it's gonna cost?
There is no government quarantine centre as such although if someone arrives without a plan they will be directed to a place of governments choosing , probably a hotel in vicinity of the airport.

The guidance is though that if someone has no quarantine plan they should not travel to Canada so there is always a chance of being denied entry which is why everyone should make the effort to sort out accommodation.

After all if COVID was not around what would people do sleep on the street or expect the government to provide free accommodation and food which would not happen or sort out their own accommodation for the initial period until they find something more permenant.

Germane to the discussion I guess ,

Global health specialist Steven Hoffman suggested that Canada won't reopen its borders to any country until it believes the U.S. has the virus under control — or at least until President Trump leaves office .
That's because Canada could face backlash from the divisive president if it opened its doors to some countries but not Americans, said Hoffman, a professor of global health, law and political science at Toronto's York University

Won't say I comprehend it, fully! Canada and US borders have remained open - well technically and for the media 'no' But for practical purposes for a much larger degree that we are led to believe.

Flights from USA have been on. Flights with many other countries banned. <<So USA has been favoured, no issues. That's just the way it is>>
Roads: "Essential worker" includes hundreds of health care workers who travel everyday, truckers in hundreds, daily (across USA, Mexico - thru to Canda. E.g. from Windsor ON to Michigan hospitals.
Canada has NO road connections with anyone else - so the question of allowing any other country is a mute one.
BC also has the passage way to Alaska by road.
Many many Americans would have driven in or thru to get away from the horrible state of COVID affairs in USA. <<i do not blame them - would you not do the same it you culd?>> But that is not the point.

Oh and we are talking about immigration / visa applicants here. That is different to appeased standards for trade, economics, bureaucratic transactions. If USA applicants were to be favoured, do we have any differentiation of immigration fees, or rules, medical or security check rules for my American brothers and sisters? Nope.

So - the different standards of admission to Canada during COVID 19 is neither due to COVID rates of the population, nor due to attempts at appeasing USA. (Else why would applicants from South Africa, Phillipines, Egypt (perhaps France as well - cant recall) have reported progress in CoPR extension).

And these are only applicants who are on this forum - there would be many who are not (logical guess only).

So is the reason a mere oversight by the local NVDO decision makers? Some suggested the VFS/VACs want to make money - can't buy that. How many millions would you make, against the risk and cost in these times, afterall.

As another member suggested - we would never know. :) Our discussions, tweets, facebook asks etc etc would hardly make a dent in the decision or at least I do not live with such illusions. :)

Why am I still lurking here - mental satisfaction. Nothing worse that the 'feeling of inability to act'. You see, we are immigrants - the toughest of the civilised society who dump their roots, friends, family for want of 'must do something - even if it is tough' in order to improve. If us lot cannot express ourselves - we will be a mental mess of people. IRCC, NDVO, VAC, VFS will continue to execute their plan!

Hey ho...!
***Oh and I do not have data to prove any of the above - so take it as you will. Grain or train of salt - up to your sound judgement :) ***

Further to what Bs65 said above -
  • "..planning to..." If your CoPR has expired, you cannot travel.
  • raising the web form is only the first step. When or whether the second step from your VO takes place depends on your local country VO (Visa Office)
  • Depending on where is your CoPR being issued from the VO will or will not proceed any further at this time. E.g. I have not heard of a single extension of CoPR from India. Not one. Of course few other countries might.
  • I would not book flight tickets until you actually get affirmative action from your VO. I.e. they start your extension.
  • Air BnB, motels, hotels, inns - whatever you see on the internet are all good sources for quarantining. Book your stay there.
  • Honesty is recommended while booking - i.e. let them know you will be quarantining.
  • Again - I would not pay any non-refundable deposits for booking - before progress on CoPR extension.
  • Very detailed and good contributions have been made by other members who have recently landed. Great suggestions on every little aspect post landing exists. Research is recommended. Simply read up here - will be a great start.:)
Best wishes,

Am in the same boat, though my COPR is set to expire in October, would love to know what others who are in the same situation will do/are going to do when their COPR expires.

Travel now!

:)

Please, just travel now, unless it is a life altering risk that prevents you from doing so. Many many members here would do anything to be in your shoes! Of course we have no idea of your individual situation - job, funds, family health etc - and not asking you to share!

But if all else is equal - then do give it a very serious consideration!

Best wishes

I am currently living in US and my COPR expired in July 2020. Now i am ready to travel but may not settle there permanently. Should i raise a form and tell them i am okay to travel now and have quarantine accommodation. My question is if i stay there for 15 days and then travel back to US, will it have any impact on my PR card?

I know they want people who are moving permanently to come but how would they track? People are still allowed to travel outside canada. So one may argue there is no real way to know if you have come to settle or moved for short term. Would it be better to stay in canada till you get the PR card?

I am having the same exact question bro. Also can we wait till the end of the year with expired COPR issued before March 18 or do we have to request some sought of extension? i haven't found any answers until now.

Thank you for the good wishes! I should have mentioned the catch though - I am in India and my COPR was issued post March 18. I was just hoping to understand what others in a similar situation (non US residents, with COPR issued post March 18) are planning to do. But I am sure IRCC will have something planned for all those with issued COPR. The question is when they'll let us know! Till then, fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

Okay guys, so today I received an email from IRCC that my application status has been updated. I, therefore, checked my account and found the following status:

"We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you.
Your application is taking us longer than usual to process.
About 20% of our applications are more complex to process. They take us longer due to things like how easily we can verify information, how well and how quickly you answer our requests and whether the application is complete.
If you aren't seeing updates, contact us using this Web form. Make sure you read your messages and take action when we ask you to."

Not sure I fully comprehend what that status means as I raised the webform to convey my willingness to travel. My counterfoil expired four months ago and I couldn't travel due to travel restrictions. Has anyone lately received such notification on their profile?

Tough one isn't it!

Other members have summarised it quite well. Since softlanding or temporary visit for CoPR confirmation or other purposes is not allowed - the risk is denial by the officer are the POE.

Numerous opinions about if you leave, they will later quiz you on the reason, question you once you are trying to return - may or may not come true. But it is only your risk appetite to wrong doing. Willingly and intentionally - sorry if it sounds harsh. Only intend to spell it out in this safe place. :)

At the POE ; This is a soft area and wholly dependant on the particular officer, her/his mood, your confidence in tone, weight of the clouds that very minute...:)You get the drift - if you are lucky like many others the topic wont arise.

BUT - remember it is NOT allowed so one would be willingly and intentionally breaching the faith of the officers and CBSA (Canadians are mostly the trusting, nice people types - until they catch you). Not recommended to breach.

Once you are in: Again, many members have highlighted 'legally' they cannot stop you from leaving. Am not a lawyer so cannot comment whether:

SInce the precedence of 'entering' then 'landing' were all done by breaching the 'advisory, and lie' does that really give you the rights of a PR. I am not saying it does not - but simply putting a common sense argument.

A genuine medical emergency, life event etc - well of course that is indeed genuine occurrence. Easy to demonstrate, if ever questioned in future.

This is not just yourself, mate - but many many others who are trying to either satisfy themselves that breaching the advisory of 'no temporary visits' can still be something 'we can get away with' or get comfort from members here. Who like me are usually no experts. :) ! I don't know - can you get away? I suppose, if you want to take a chance, consider its worth and alternatives. :)

Best wishes towards a well measured decision, only you can / should take!

Hi,

Just responded to @Notyetcanadian above.

If not already raised - it would not harm to raise a webform stating the obvious of why you could not travel. Its obvious but I feel that will create a record on your file, which is always the right thing to do.

I would!
