Hello, I’m not sure if someone has raised this question and if this has already been answered — my COPR was approved on March 16, 2020 and I’m planning to move to Canada on Sept 30th. I’m aware that I’m exempted from the travel restrictions, but do I still have to raise a ‘Ready To Travel’ webform?

I had filled ready to travel web form in june 1st week.still haven't got this reply.Shall I fill it again? When did you submit?

Hey mate I just have one more question I forgot to ask you previously ... When you landed in London through VBM did the Airport authorities at Heathrow ask you to exit the airport and book a hotel or did you spend all of your layover in Airport ??
Layover was of 5 hours. So was not required to leave..aftee security checks and all we were left with 3 hours n very easily spent that time at the airport

Can someone please confirm if we can travel to Canada from the USA even if COPR is approved after 18th march 2020. Mine got Approved in May 2020.
If yes, could you please share the link.

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I hold a copr and PR visa that was issued before march 2020 and expires at 12th of november 2020, so i am exempted from travel restrictions.

However, IRCC also mentions on official site that copr holders who travel should have the intention to settle permanently and travelling to finish permanent residency application formalities is not a valid reason for travel right now!

Does this mean it will be a problem if i land for 14 days (quarantine) and then leave?

NB: i am not ready yet to permanently settle and if i dont soft land now, i risk my visa expiring and going through lengthy procedures for a copr & PR extension.

Please advise me,

Thanks.

Thanks a lot, Mage for a detailed explanation.
If I would not be able to travel and raise webform for the same, would I be getting any acknowledgment email from IRCC?
what's the phone number to contact IRCC from the USA?
You're welcome. Current IRCC guidelines recommend raising a webform only when you're ready to travel, not for inability to travel. I do not know, whether acknowledgement is provided or not, so I can't reliably answer your question. As far as expectations go, yes, I would expect it to be the case.

I don't know the phone number, but it should be fairly easy to find it on web.

It is not a crime to do soft landing and but IRCC and CBSA might have follow-up measures since they have your departure record. Even if you manage to do soft landing, you still need to go through a lengthy procedure of getting Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) once you intent to go back to Canada.

All in all, you can do a soft landing to confirm your PR if you *really* have to. Otherwise I suggest you do the *right* thing for your own peace of mind and safety of others.

Yes, you can travel from US to Canada. There are two conditions that you need to be aware of:

1. Your travel should not be optional or discretionary. If you're moving there with intention to settle, this condition is satisfied. See 'All Other Foreign Nationals' here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/travel-restrictions-exemptions.html

2. You should not have symptoms of COVID-19, when you're entering Canada (clearing immigration check). Check under 'Foreign Nationals' here: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/latest-travel-health-advice.html

Seems like the travel-restrictions-exemptions page was updated a couple of days ago: The section: "Travellers coming from outside the US who are exempt from the travel restrictions" now says "Any person who has been approved to become a permanent resident of Canada, but who is not yet a permanent resident".
Earlier (up until July 23rd) it stated "Some Approved Permanent Residents".
This effectively means anyone with a valid COPR can now land?

Untill unless there is a clear cut announcement from IRCC I wouldn't read too much into. When in doubt contact them and verify

Travelling from the US
You can travel to Canada from the United States to settle and live in Canada as a permanent resident if
  • we approved your application and
  • we sent you a CoPR
