I have found an interesting scenario. If you apply for COPR extension and if it is approved. we will be asked to do our medicals again. Once we do the medicals and send out our passport for re stamping. I heard you will get another year of extension from the date of new medicals.

Is this valid?? If so it will be a great option.
Ideally it should be. But many people will still consider travel instead of re-medical because of some reasons like medical cost compared to travel cost, or a risk of getting something negative on next medical test.
But in the end, it is a personal decision that the person himself has to take.

Not in the email but when u call them on 1-888-242-2100 in the options it says all appointments are cancelled.
Those appointments are for inland applicants. Meaning those who are already in Canada, have received CoPR and simply need the last step.

If you are currently outside Canada there is no applicability of any appointments. Exception would be if you were specifically asked by IRCC to appear for an interview. This is less common.

Hence there should be no worry - take it easy, apply for extension if and once you are unable to travel. Instruction for extension requests would be in the same email you received. Its a web form.

Best wishes!

Just received an email from IRCC for people from USA (copied partial info):

Important information for approved permanent residence applicants currently in the United States

This email is for you if:
  • you are in the United States
  • your application for permanent residence (PR) was approved and
  • you have a confirmation of permanent residence (CoPR)
If you are already in Canada or not in the United States, please disregard this message; it does not apply to you. If you are a representative, please inform your clients who fit the above description.
On March 20, 2020, the Government of Canada provided updates on exemptions to travel restrictions in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of Canadians. Additional updates have been provided for foreign nationals in the United States.
If your circumstances allow you to settle in Canada, we encourage you to put a plan in place as soon as you are able to. Congratulations again on having been selected to immigrate to Canada. We look forward to welcoming you.
Find out if the travel restrictions apply to you:
  • If your PR application was approved you are allowed to travel to Canada if it is not for an optional or discretionary purpose. Please be aware that airlines have the discretion to allow passengers to board flights and once arrived in Canada, border services officers make a final determination on your entry into Canada.
  • Please read about the public health measures below. If circumstances allow, we encourage you to continue to make plans to land in Canada in 2020. If possible, we encourage you and your accompanying family members to enter Canada at the same time.

Correct! Difficulty in securing medical-check appointments as well as risk of infection are considerations one must keep in mind.

More-so for seniors or immune deficient travelers!

Hi i m new to this forum but it was a great place to find a lot of information.

My situation:
My copr will be expiring on June 18 2020 currently in US. I have received a job offer but it is pending because of the COVID issue. I am planning to arrive canada in first week of June.

1) Going by road: I spoke to CBSA today stating that COPR is about to expire. She informed me that at all the land border crossings immigration is currently withheld. She insisted not to travel. I then explained her that IRCC Web-form response was they cannot offer an extension since travel is allowed from USA to Canada. So she asked me to carry that email if i am crossing border by land. Is this true??? Anyone denied of extensions from USA?? Anyone crossed border by land??

2) Going by flight: I spoke to 2 of my friends who traveled to Toronto last week. They were able to complete the process and were mandated a 14 day self quarantine asking for all the hotel booking for next 14 days. But he said all the offices for SIN processing are closed.

Any suggestion to apply extension via another web-form and wait for land borders to open???. I can see going by flight is a better option but wanted to know if anyone crossed border via land. Otherwise i have to deal with lot of things before moving.

Thanks in advance.
I just spoke with a CBSA agent and she explained me that untill April 15, all the travel exemptions provided by IRCC were valid. On April 15, when Quarantine act came into force, it superseded the IRCC travel exemptions and all immigration services were stopped at land and airport boarders. Now if there is anyone who landed on COPR after April 15 be it through land or air should help us confirm this.

Is there any PNP applicant, who received a separate email from their respective province ( besides the standard reply of web form). I just got one stating that please inform us on any changes to your employment due to this virus ,I haven't replied to it. Anybody got the same .. Did you respond..?.
My copr expired today
Yes, I am a PNP candidate (Alberta) with copr. I also received an email from AINP yesterday. The email only applies to applicants whose employment has been affected by covid and have still not received a COPR. for approved applicants, you do NOT need to inform.

Yeah, I just booked my flight tickets yesterday... :(
And they applied these restrictions only for people coming from US I guess.

Guys, I just received an email from IRCC. I have not sent any webforms yet. Its a long email that most of you have probably received so I'll just mention a summary of it here.
As per the email, all outland applicants with approved COPR on or before March 18 are still strongly being advised to travel and land within the validity of their CoPR.
For those who are 'unable' due to lockdown or lack of flights, the same information about raising a webform has been mentioned.

Yeah, Airlines should give you credit refund that you can use later. Plus most have a free cancellation within 24 hours (if that applies to you).
Guess it's a webform now.
My problem is that I need to renew my passport (expires in Aug) and the consulate here in US is closed for an indefinite period.
Plus IRCC needs a passport that's valid for 6 months if they re-open my case:/
