Guys,

I have a question.. I got my coop work permit which is valid for 4 months to finish my course with coop( there is an option to finish it without a coop also). My question is: If i take a full-time job, can i use this coop work permit to work as a full time and get graduated with a coop program and still continue with the same role. ?

Answers are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your time. Happy Weekend

Hey mate,

You can, but be careful as your work experience gathered while in school / before graduation is not counted towards your permanent residency application. Also I'm pretty sure that on your Co-op work permit it mentions your employer's name, so if you work for another employer that would not be a good idea.

Wait for more seniors answers on this.

Best of luck,

Coop work is already full-time work, but it is not permanent work. I don't get how you plan to use a 4-month Co-op WP to work permanently.

Are you actually on co-op full-time job? If so you do not need to worry about whether your Co-op WP can be used in permanent job, as your WP ends, your Co-op contract ends at the same time. You will apply to PGWP after Co-op expires, and after you graduate.

If you're graduating soon, and you're transitioning into permanent work, you will apply to PGWP before Co-op WP expires, to be on implied status to keep working.

Hi Nuke , to your last point , i am in that situation , have been working on the coop full time for my employer , they have now offered me a full time job offer letter to continue with them . can i stay on the co op work visa until it expires , thing is my co op states employer as my college , now taking up a full time job is ok right . i will complete grad in Apr and then apply for PGWP , so will have that in May .Many Thanks .

Co-op work permit will be valid till expiry of your study permit. Your company is offering you a full-time job offer, I think you should apply for your PGWP as soon as possible and accept the offer. Once you apply for PGWP, your status will be changed from co-op to full-time and you can start to work full-time during this implied status.

Thanks,
