Hello, Sir/Madam

I currently have an visitor visa valid for 4 years. I'm planning to continue my undergraduate education at Canada. Is it possible, I can convert my visitor visa into student visa? Please let me know the process. Im currently on a student visa in United States.

Thank you

Your TRV cannot be "converted" to anything. If you wish to come to Canada as a student then you will need to apply for a "Study Permit", once you have that study permit you will use your TRV for entering Canada so you can pursue your undergrad education.

You can not convert it, but you can apply for study permit even when you are on visit visa, but that study permit should be process from outside of Canada, so you can apply nearest visa center through mail.

Is it possible to apply for study permit inside Canada?

No.

You can be physically in Canada and send the application abroad, but this presents other difficulties.

Will I get a new student visa if my study permit approves? Or the same visitor visa will work to enter Canada?

Yes. If it your application is approved. No, you will enter with your Study permit. As soon as you get it- your VISITOR visa expires.

I think OP means TRV not visitor status.

OP is from a non-exempt visa country, so he will need a TRV and a Study Permit to enter Canada.

For citizens of non-exempt countries SP is issued together with TRV. They do not need to apply separately for TRV and SP.

Interesting. First time I hear this, all of our previous experiences have been to first have the SP and then with the SP file for the TRV when the previous TRV had expired. Good to know there are other options.

Of course, you should check with particular visa office.
Because when you mentioned that maybe it is different for applying in Canada. I doubt but.. it who knows CIC? :D

Lets say I am in Canada and want to apply for study permit, but there's no visa office in my country ( in any way, I have to send my documents to either Turkey or Ukraine). Do I still need to travel to my country to apply for study permit?

Hi Guys,

I am currently in TRV status and planning to apply for a study permit while in Canada.

Is this allowed? If yes, do I need to send my application in LA? or can I apply online?

I'm from the Philippines btw. :)

Please help. I'm planning to enroll for January 2017 class.
