Hello Everyone,

This is my first post on this forum so i'll just quickly give my background in a nutshell.

I arrived in Canada in 2014 to pursue a 2 year post-secondary diploma course. Completed the course in sept 2016, applied for my PGWP and received it for 3 years. I had 7+ years of experience in the same field of study that i pursued in Canada and also where i am currently employed. I have a query regarding how work experience is counted towards applying for PR and my question is two fold.

In Sept 2016 itself i got a job in a corporate head office on full-time (more than 30hrs) contract basis. I am currently working at the same firm and my contract type is a perpetual one i.e. it doesn't have a specified end date and would be renewed every year. My weekly hours are way over 30 hours and i have my pay-stubs which mention the same. My question is, once i reach october 2017 and i would have completed 1 year in this company, will my experience working on a contract job which is more than 30 hours also get considered towards the 1 year work experience clause? or does it have to be a 'permanent' full time job.

Second part to my question is, i am currently getting interviewed for a job in a different company and the job designation is that of a Manager. The company however has already told me that since i am on a work permit and not a PR holder, they would be able to offer me employment on contract full time basis. This puts me in the same situation as my current job in terms of employment status being 'on contract' however it is a jump in designation.

I am not sure if i should go ahead and take up the offer from the new company, because if i wait instead in my current company, they are willing to change my employment status to permanent full time towards the end of the year.

I hope i described the situation clearly. :)

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Thanks a lot in advance!

1, As long as you are an employee, and not self employed, the experience will count. If you are issued a T4 slip from your employer, you are an employee and eligible.

No, it does not have to be a "permanent job" (or full-time, for that matter). Contract employment is still employment. This experience will count.

Can't help you with the other job offer, though : ) You might want to ask if the position will become permanent once you have obtained your PR status. Not sure the contract vs permanent matters that much, unless it is some kind of peace of mind for you.

Thanks for the prompt reply guys!

@PMM: Yes i do get a T4 issued from my company.

@jes_ON: Thanks for your response. Yes the new employer has told me that they are willing to change the job status to permanent once i obtain my PR card.

This definitely is a big load of my mind. Thanks again.

Cheers!
