When would be a good time to have an MP contact CIC on your behalf to learn about your application. I'm not thinking of contacting my MP, I'd just like to have a sense of when it is worthwhile for future reference.

Thanks,

The only time an MP will even consider helping you in regards to your application would be if you have surpassed the 'posted' processing timeline. I guess that would be the time to contact them.

That's not true...there are some MP's out there that will help no matter how long your application has been at the VO.

It's a hit and miss on who will help and who won't help. I know my MP helped me out with something but they didn't help out in a way to speed up my application.

I know of others on here who's MP did help them out and did speed up their application.

I guess call your MP and see what they say....the worse thing they can say is " contact us when your time s past the posted date"

yes, i would recommend calling the sponsor's mp. since the site says they are currently processing applications from may 1, you are outside the normal processing time and they may be able to help.

That's great information to know. I think my application is within reasonable waiting times currently but I know of some people from my VO whose applications are running 1 year+ without even being touched. Even though my VO's processing time is at 21 months - at the one year mark I'd like to know what's going on. Unfortunately, my MP is a conservative who hasn't done much for our area lately, and may not even care about the experiences of Canadians going through immigration, which is a shame because Glen Pearson was my former MP and his wife used to shop at my parents' business where we would chat. His children are from Sudan and he was the Minister for international development so I think he would have been sensitive to and understood immigration issues. I've spoken to him a few times and he was so approachable and down-to-earth. Anyways, now I'm just lamenting the loss of my favorite MP who probably would have made the call. Also the reason why I doubt my current MP is I know someone who worked for and doesn't have much nice to say about her now but I should ask that person and I could be pleasantly surprised if I just asked my MP's office.

You could also just order your GCMS notes to get a grasp of what is going on with your case at any point in time. Your MP can NOT push to make your file go faster, as was implied by a previous poster. Sometimes, when your file has gone out of the 'time limits' is would appear that a call by your MP forces CIC to get a grip and make a decision, however they don't / can't and won't push your file to a faster answer. The most your MP can do, and for the most part the ONLY time they will even bother is when your application goes outside of the 'normal' processing time and then, as stated, they will make a call on your behalf to inquire about it. Sometimes they can get a bit more details than what you can get from CIC call center but if you are only curious what is going on with each step, then order your notes and read for yourself.

Best of luck to you.

We did not find this the case at all
Processing time for our visa office was 26 months... our MP contacted them on our behalf at about the 10-11 month mark
They were so helpful... thank goodness as I have heard others have had not that kind of help

I think it all depends on your MP

I guess that really would depend on the type of 'help' you requested from them. If it was, say, in the field of, I sent a document, but CIC insists I didn't, then I can see how they might be able to help, however, based on what I "THINK" the OP is asking about and what you are stating here are two different things.

I THINK the OP wants to know if he can call on his MP at some point to help push his application along when he feels enough time has passed. That is obviously not the case for what is in the scope of an MP's power. I am sure you can agree on that, since you stated you contacted them at roughly 12 months and it appears your file took about 23 to complete ...

If I am mistaken and the OP just wants to know how/when to contact his MP to have a 'chat' about his application and the process it undergoes, then certainly, he/she may in fact be quite helpful. But for the majority of folks on this board, when they call their OP with 'complaints' about how long the process is taking and they are not out of the stated timeline, then the usual response is 'I am sorry, there really isn't anything I can do for you, please wait until the stated timeline has passed" ...

Incorrect... we contacted them around the 11th month mark... and shortly thereafter we went in process... coincidence... I think not
Our total processing time from when the application was received at CIC-M until passport was received was 17 months

We had a delay because of the request for the medical extension.. which our MP's office helped with as well

The original request was to find out the status of our application in Singapore.
Once went in process the PPR was received within a couple of months
I don't think we would have went in process if our MP's office hadn't have contacted them

The office person at our MP's office went above and beyond to assist us every step of the way

As other people have indicated... it depends on your MP
Ours was wonderful .

Which is exactly what I stated earlier. They were able to give CIC a nudge to look at the app but not push it to completion. Your timeline in your signature is how I figured out 23 months.

This could be debated all day. You feel as if your mp did something. Many more on this board feel Theirs has done nothing. I will continue to say that an mp can not help you until timelines have passed. Yours really could be coincidence because each vo is responsible to update his/her cases as he/she sees fit. A call from the mp may have just forced this vo to just update yours so they wouldn't be called in again, who knows. You had a good experience many more do not.

Hey guys!!!

Just chill :D when I called MP office, they straight way said they cannot do any thing or to say they are not a big help. and I told him about the forum and people who got helped by their MPs and he said that it he said its not 100% true. and when I insist him to just to know the updates of my case so that it can trigger my file and I might get some new info, then he goes, it doesn't work all the time to all people sometimes CIC can update the file and sometimes they get furious and delay our process purposely. so, I dont know how many people got luck with MP's help however, I got straight ans, " Be patient and wait for the answer from CIC" :) :) :) :) :) :)

and I am waiting .............
