Consulat wants copy of photo ID

I was just wondering if it is normal for a Law firm in Canada, to require a photo ID(copy) before staring consultation.

"You will be required to complete an Intake Form (attached), provide photo identification to authenticate your identify (a requirement of the Law Society of Upper Canada) "

Consultation is usually free...once u and lawyer agree to get going for services...for undertaking to get sign u have to provide the id to lawyer.

It might be free, but I met two lawyers. They asking for fee of one hour consultation ($160-$200). They if agree to go, they will use this hour fee toward your overall fees. Typically, they take copy of photo ID when they saw you first time.

I don't think you have to provide ID before sign up. However, it is upto the individual law firm policy to determine why and how they operate (willing seller-willing buyer basis).

I tried to call them,but they rush with you on the phone way too much,it was a free consultation,last lastet 10min, max,,I 'd be willing to pay for consult,with them , but i have a feeling they are just too busy even for paid consultations and they would rush it as well.

I never see any lawyer at consultation stage asking for id...no use of it...once both parties ready to sign undertaking...yes u should provide id.
