Hi folks, I'm going to fly to Montreal this August and I took 1 air ticket of Cathay airlines which will have a short layover at Toronto before heading to Montreal. The flight from Toronto to Montreal would be operated by Westjet. It seems to me that they 2 flight in booked in 1 ticket only (not separate ones)
My question is: Do I need to collect and claim my checked luggage at Toronto, or will my luggage be transferred directly to Montreal by the airlines?
Cause I read many different opinions about this. Some said that new change in regulation at Toronto airport does not require me reclaim the checked luggage, some said that it's a must.
Highly appreciate your advice.

Your 'port of entry' into Canada shall be Toronto. So you shall claim your baggage, undergo Customs check and get your Study permit there. The flight from Toronto Pearson to Montreal Trudeau Airport shall be a domestic flight, for which you shall need to recheck your bagagge.
You can reconfirm the same with your airline.
